My husband and I live in New Zealand. We've been here for three years. A man stalked us in the park, yelling at us, running after us to catch up to us. Seeking us out, yelling, belittling us, harassing us. We called the police, they wouldn't send a car. This man was committing a crime. They wouldn't send a car.

My son had an argument with his roommate. My son had been drinking. He chose to leave the house and argument and come to my house (which is within walking distance). He called me to let me know he was coming. His roommate called the police. The police came. The police came to a situation where the argument was over, my son had left, nobody was at risk. No laws were being broken.

Was it the right thing to do? Nothing was accomplished by calling the police. Nobody was protected, nobody was saved, nothing was accomplished. But they refused to come when someone was harassing and stalking us in the park.

The world makes no sense.

When the police arrived, they informed me (on the phone) my son had done nothing wrong. They insisted on seeing him and they were in front of my house. I asked them to stay there and I would bring Cameron to them at the curb, for inspection. I told them we had a sleeping baby in the house, so please let's meet at the curb. I crossed the room and they were already on my porch. When we went outside to talk to them, they talked REALLY loud at 3:30 am. It seems they completely ignored my request for a meeting at the curb and for respect for those who were asleep, including a 4 month old baby. Again, the world makes no sense to me. People don't listen to the words being said, not even the police.

Perhaps it's not safe for my son to be wandering the street at 3:30 in the morning when he's been drinking, but was it really necessary to call the police? Why didn't they call me instead? Do people really lack basic rationality skills? My son was rational enough to leave the argument, rational enough to not get in his car and drive, rational enough to phone me and was completely rational and calm at my house. Completely rational. So why did they have to call the police? Again, the police said "Cameron has done nothing wrong."

I am so sorry. And yes world makes no sense. I had a neighbor killed his wife's grandpa and injured grandma in from of our houses and when It was happening I called the police and they said its a family matter and they need to call themselves. When they later showed up ( when woman came home and saw her grandpa dead) it was too late. I later testified in court about what I saw and judge said police will be reprimanded for not showing up on time. Yeah right. Granted it happened elsewhere not the US.
