I feel like I'm missing something ....

So this guy I was chatting with told me he is going to dinner with a guy he is going on a trip with.... (it's a group trip, this guy happens to be the only other local going so they have been hanging out a bit) and he said I would probably think it's weird

I was confused.... I was like dinner is weird?!! LOL.... then he said "Just two guys having dinner"

Later told me he was glad it wasn't coming off weird.

I have no idea, I mean, I am female and I've had many dinners with other females and I am straight. Is this really a thing that is weird to people? Are guys not supposed to eat with other guys?? LOL. Maybe I'm too old or something

I find that Some guys tend to get touchy about the idea of being perceived as gay.

There is nothing weird about dinner with a friend. My husband goes out with his guy friends solo to catch up. So what.

No, there's nothing weird, but perhaps he thought that you might perceive him as gay. Reassure him if you want

Which is weird because I know he has a ex who is female LOL it never crossed my mind, and why would he care what I think anyway?

It's weird he felt he had to comment on it, not weird for two guys to go out to dinner!

Absolutely nothing wrong with 2 guys having dinner. He's probably had some jokes in the past, who knows. But nothing wrong with it either way.

A lot of guys are somewhat overly phobic of being perceived as gay. That's probably all it is.

For him to point it out that they were "just friends" can be significant, and having girlfriends in the past means nothing. File it away and see how much time he spends with this guy. Many on the DL have a "friend" they spend all their time with who is actually their lover.

I was thinking this was a possibility too. He could be gay and insecure about it.

I never said he said they were "just friends" --just two guys having dinner was the exact quote

and like I said they are going on a trip, as a bigger group, and he's the only other local going so to me it was more like getting to know the local person before you spend a few days together so you are not complete strangers

IMHO I don't see anything wrong, strange or unusual for two men to go to dinner or whatever together. I think too its okay to be gay. I mean this as a general statement. I say live and let live. Hey as long as no harm is done to anyone its their choice.

It is fairly intimate to eat with another person. A guy can maintain boundaries by suggesting the other guy 'grabs something to eat' while they continue a discussion. Dinner suggests to me their boundaries are already lower. It suggests a coded message.

Wow, I sure would have never read into "dinner" as something.... in this case, he says Dinner always with regards to eating at that time.

Anyway we talked and it's nothing. As I suspected. I told him I had to laugh because it's so weird that he would think it's weird. He was shocked to find out people don't assume it's weird. All settled...
