My mom said this to me, meaning i dont care about anyone, and it hit me hard. Its not true. Even my T said its not true. Ok, i mostly act cold and detached, dont like talking and sharing but i care a lot about the people i love. How comes my mom doesnt know me still? Or is it because she still wants me to be like she thinks i should be? Im not a kid anymore, i have my own personality and dont want to change only to please her...

Your mother does not know everything "in your heart". I think it is natural for children to want to have some independance from their parents and in order to do this--they're not going to share everything. It wouldn't be healthy either. Her comment strikes me as inappropriate (of course, at PC, we do not know the entire context).

Is sitting down with your mom and having a heart to heart possible? I know my mother said something to me that was hurtful and inappropriate. It really, really upset me. I asked my therapist and friends if they saw me that way and they didn't. If you can't sit down with your mom try to process it in therapy and you do you.

Thank you both for answering and validating my feelings. it happened a week ago and i dont want to go back on it with my mom. also because talking with her is almost impossible. she would either minimize it or twist things and make it all about her. i prefer letting go, but i had to get it out with someone somewhere and posting about it helped. thank you!
