So someone said to me that today is someone's birthday. I said oh yeah today is my nephew's birthday too. Then he goes on and on about people's birthdays that he knows in the month of December. I mean everyone from friends to co-workers.
I immediately felt annoyed. Then it turned into his plans for new years, but then he kept repeating it, at least two times. Ok I got it, you once again are not spending any time with your family on new years. You refuse to take us to an event that what he believes brings happiness and prosperity for the coming year. Anyway, is this ok for me to be annoyed by his words? Does anyone else deal with a person like this?

People like to talk about themselves, and not exactly in a nice way. I tend to not be annoyed when this happens because if it's annoying or I know it'll be a long story from someone I don't know well I'll just zone out and just nodding and saying "yes, uh-huh, yes"

Who is it? I guess it depends who the person is. Family? Friend? Just stranger?

I know it's a terrible thing to do, but I've struggled with communication since I was little.

It's my kids father. This is how he talks to me. A friend of mine noticed, except he was talking about all the people he knew at his job. Then was talking about high school football.

Some people DO like to go on an on about themselves and their own lives. It's perfectly normal to be annoyed by this type of self-centeredness and cluelessness. It's like he dismissed your comment about your nephew, and went on about himself. I would be annoyed, too.
