My gf was in a 5 year relationship with her ex. She had told me that their relationship went sour, but that she still enjoyed having him as a friend. I have confronted her more than once about how it makes me uncomfortable, and she always tries to reassure me that there’s nothing to worry about. She also tells me that she always makes sure to remind her ex that them hanging out is nothing more than platonic. Occasionally, they will take weekend trips (she does this with her girl friends too), but it makes me really uneasy. I couldn’t see myself doing that with any of my exes.

What are your guys’ opinion/advice on this?

Weekend trips? And why does she need to keep reminding him that their relationship is platonic? I must admit it sounds a bit odd to me. I think you can try talking to her about how you feel and you guys can try to establish some comfortable boundaries together. Perhaps if she and her ex get on well they can remain friends and/or cordial, but perhaps things like the weekend trips together can be stopped. Just my 2 cents.

I do not think the weekend trips are ok.

Yikes.

She is still very much in relationship with her ex. I’d not even call him ex as he is very much in the picture. Taking vacations with girlfriends or family is perfectly fine. Taking trips with another man not so much.

Why aren’t you going with them? If he is just a friend he could join you two on your trips or outings. But that’s not happening because he isn’t just a friend.
Thanks for this!

Yeah I agree that the weekend trips are strange. I'm still friends with my ex's, but we don't go places overnight. We rarely hang out alone. Maybe for a few minutes while waiting for the rest of our friends to show up, but not because we want to be alone together.
