Hello,

So my wife and I had to move into my dads house where he and my older brother live. We had to because between medical bills and my wife unable to work we couldn't afford rent. This has led to my dad and brother to act like children. The only thing we asked was that they don't make a lot of noise after 8pm. Which is when we try to put our 9 month old son down to bed. However, my dad has become an alcoholic over the recent months and gets drunk every night. He becomes very clumsy and inconsiderate. But luckily he will stumble off to bed around 9:30pm. My older brother however is another story. He is a night owl, he works the evening shift at a pizza joint, and doesn't get home until around 12am. When he does get home he stomps around the house, banging pots & pans making himself food, then slam every door in the house. He is very inconsiderate of others and has always been his whole life.

Now my wife and I can easily sleep through my dads drunk behavior and my brothers inconsiderate behavior. But my son however is constantly be woken in the night by all this. It's to the point that we only get two hours of sleep a night because our son will not go back to sleep.

I have thought about every time my brother is asleep I wake his butt up. I see it as leveling the playing field. Because unfortunately my wife, son, and I cannot afford to move out and won't be able to for about a year. So I'm looking for tips on how to deal with this. I have tried talking to them multiple times. But it does no good to talk to a alcoholic or a inconsiderate man-child.

What a horrible situation to be in and especially for your son. Sleep is so important to physical and mental health. I wish I had some good advice to offer, but sadly I am at a loss. Hopefully others here who have dealt with similar situations will see your post and respond to it in a kindly and helpful way. It is heartbreaking what you are going through.

Do you have any friends you could stay with?
