So I just got home from a coffee date I went on this morning— it was a total waste of time. I get that the guy had to drop off his sick kiddo first, so I am willing to overlook the fact that he hadn’t shaved. I don’t have kids, so I have the luxury of making myself look a bit more polished. What I am not willing to overlook is the fact that, during the entire date, this guy barely made eye contact with me. He looked in every single direction other than my eyes. I mean, I get that I’m not Heidi Klum, but dating etiquette dictates that you at least grant someone the courtesy of eye contact. Also, he mumbled and did not ask me any questions; I asked the questions, and frankly, I wasn’t terribly impressed by his answers. He seems to have no direction, he’s dropping out of his psychology degree and wouldn’t give a concrete reason, and he seems happy to just work in a warehouse and drive for uber for the rest of his life. I’m not asking for someone to want to become a major CEO or a neurosurgeon or whatever— but I am expecting someone who wants to live their life to the fullest and who dreams big. He showed no interest in me, my side business, etc. I tried to learn more about him and he just didn’t communicate. After the date, I messaged him on the dating website and said that, although we are clearly not a match, I hope he finds what he’s looking for and that his daughter feels better soon. No response. Is there something wrong with me that I keep getting these disastrous dates? What am i doing wrong? This guy sounded way more enthusiastic on the dating app. I guess I just fell for it. I’m not desperate to find love, but I am making it more of a priority these days, because I have decided that, if I am single with no kids by the time I’m forty, that’s it. I’m going to be 37 in February. The clock is ticking. If I do end up forty and single with no kids, I’ve decided I’m going to sell my place once my beloved kitty passes away and just be a digital nomad. Maybe I’m not meant to be a wife and mom. I don’t know at this point.

Hi, sorry it didn't go as you imagined. Maybe he was having an off time due to his kid being sick. Or perhaps he's just not good making eye contact. I have noticed many people are very awkward with eye contact. Perhaps it was a sign he's just not right, you need eye contact(and communication) he cannot provide. Sounds like you have a wonderful furry companion by your side though. Those are precious moments.
Don't give up!

Honestly, I thought he was very rude. And if he was really not in the mindset of having this date due to his sick daughter, why did he message me earlier that weekend to make sure we were still on for Saturday? I was completely unimpressed. But yes, I do have my wonderful kitty, so at least I had good company for the rest of the day. Lol

I think he was rude. He was interested in meeting you but then it sounds like it didn’t click when you’ve met. Polite person would still give full attention and maybe would make a new friend. Rude person was letting you know with his body language that he wasn’t interested in you upon meeting.

I think it’s a blessing that you didn’t have to see him more than that one date. Imagine a waste of time it would be if you had to see him more. His loss.
