He did change after 2-3 years in. He started becoming mean at times then.

Would any of the friends be able to put a permenent bed in their home somewhere?

Not sure what rents are like there, but if allowed, if enough of us on the forum put money somewhere and you could get to that money, would getting somewhere to rent be a option?

I doubt it. If they are kind enough to let me stay with them, then I’m sure they’d expect help with the rent sooner or later.

I can’t even keep a retail job for long. If I do find one, I’ll be working anywhere from 8-20 hours a week making minimum wave. I have no degree & I hardly know much about computers.

That’s so kind of you to offer to raise money for me! I live in California in the N. Bay. It’s expensive here! Rent is $3300 a month for our fixer upper!

Even renting a room would cost a lot here! If I stay at a motel 6, it’d cost $80-90 a day! Then I’d need money for gas, my phone bill & food.

And then there’s divorce lawyers fees on top of that too.

I could open up a venmo account if it’s free & doesn’t require a credit check or any money. I have bad credit & my 3 low limit cards are maxed out

Jesyka in the UK we have a place called Citizens Advice, it’s a free place to go and get information and advice on legal matters (not necessarily with a solicitor but sometimes) is there anything like this in the US? Maybe American members know somewhere?

I think you’re probably right that you won’t be able to be entitled to be added to his account but in the event you do get an income either job or benefits it would be wise to open an account just in your name to have independence.

if we was in the same country, i'd give my spare bedroom to you, currently a storage room, i could squeeze in there and if you was okay with cats, the smaller room could of been set up so you have somewhere safe

Thanks for the info. I’ll look into that. Hopefully I’ll br able to find a decent job that won’t expect me to learn everything in less than a week.

Free Legal Help

I found this page with some options for legal assistance. I also think some law schools conduct legal clinics for people that can't afford a lawyer. If there is a law school near you, you could see if they offer something.

Willow, in the US, probably the most common benefit is unemployment insurance. To receive that, you have to have worked and paid into the system for a certain amount of time. The circumstances of why you left your job also determine if you qualify. Cash benefits are very limited and generally go to people with children for strict time limits. There is SNAP, which provides a soft of debit card for food purchases. You have to apply and meet certain requirements.

Jesyka - it seems like most counties have a social services office that can help you find out what you might qualify for and how to apply. I would say going there and also to whatever legal aid option might be available to you would be two important steps.

Even if the shelter is full they should be able to provide you with resources you can contact.

Your husband would have to pay alimony and would have to split whatever value your property. Is with you. Check what your state laws say. If you have a copy of a statement showing how much money was in that joint account hang onto it because even though he can move these funds it’s a record of funds he has that you may have the right to having 50% depending on your state divorce laws.

As far as earning money outside of retail, can you try and brainstorm other options? I have no idea about your background, but many people do things like house/pet sitting, tutoring, mystery shopping, watching an elderly person for family members that need to get out of the house for a bit.

There is a lot of information online about ways to make extra money. They may help you brainstorm. It sounds like ultimately you need to leave. You are probably not going to make a ton of money like that. But, anything you can do to set aside some money for yourself will be to your benefit, preferably in a bank account in your name.

When I was between jobs I used to teach private English classes and mystery shopped for everything from jewelry to cars.

The check was cashed at our bank in person. What happened is that MAYBE the scammer got a hold of ONE of the two lost or stolen checks. People do steal mail to get money & checks as well as credit cards.

OR our maid might have stolen a check from a checkbook that I may have left on the counter. I may have forgotten to put it away. I don’t remember if I did or not.

We did get the $950 back from the bank. The scammer was never caught.

Thanks for the link. I doubt that I’ll get much if anything if I do end up qualifying for disability.

I think you have to have worked for a certain period of time to get it. I haven’t worked in a few years, so idk if I’ll even get anything at all.

I live in the U.S btw if anyone can tell me how disability works if they happen to have any experience with it. I heard that most people get denied at first.

I did find some promising jobs online that aren’t retail that don’t require a lot of computer skills like Excel. I don’t know anything about that at all.

You’re right about what you said. The law in Ca. us a 50/50 state. He took the copies I got from the bank which is weird. My therapist thinks it’s because I’ll loose the paperwork with sensitive financial information on it.

I’ll get more copies & hide them. I might need that info one day. Hopefully the bank manager can provide copies again.

Would someone hire me as a house or pet sitter with no experience at all? If do, where can I find clients or better yet, a company I can work for?

Also, I have no college degree, only a h.s one. I’ve worked at office jobs answering phones. I also worked in a call center. I only had to verify information & input the correct info with clients.

These days most places not only require computer skills I don’t have, some are even expecting you to be bilingual too. Excel is difficult & it takes a long time to learn. Other skills are required like book keeping just for an entry level office job here.

What mystery shopping places did you work for? I heard that some of them are scams as thet ask for money to get materials. Did you ever have to pay any company a fee?
