I need some serious help trying to figure out how to prove to my wife celebrity Zac Efron is not the real person talking to her in private chats. She is obsessed with him and has and is currently being involved in imposter scams. It is ruining our marriage and I wish I could contact Zac Efron or his management to make a statement to my wife he will never contact his fans personally. I don't know what to do, she lies about it constantly and hides her phone and hides in the bathroom to hide what she's doing with her messaging a fake Zac Efron imposter.
Please Help! |

What your wife is doing sounds unhealthy and possibly even dangerous. I don't blame you for feeling concerned.
Suppose you were to totally ignore this. If she is talking about this celebrity, suppose you were to always change the subject. I'm suggesting that you withdraw any and all attention on your part to Zac Efron and your wife's claimed interaction with him. You would withdraw some energy from this obsession. It might then start to wither. If your wife is going to entertain this delusion, it may be impossible to reason her out of it. Challenging her may just cause her to dig in her heels, insisting this is a real connection. So maybe try doing the opposite. Show zero interest in anything she says about this celebrity. Try it and see. |

Have you tried the catfish website? They have a tool that can help you see who she is REALLY talking to, not Zac.

I think it might be same with conspiracies. You can’t convince people otherwise if they believe in conspiracies. You can show them fact and evidence and it won’t stop them.
Make sure you protect your finances. Take your money out and create separate bank accounts. Limit your options for being financially scammed. |

There's a channel on YouTube (Catfished) that is about celebrity and romance scams. One lady was convinced she is talking to Johnny Depp. You could show her that. The end game of someone impersonating Zac Efron may be to get money out of her. Like one poster above me said - try tracing his texts or searching for sections of text. Scammers often use set phrases and responses to lure in their victims. Warning signs of a scam: - The respondent is always available, day and night. The real Zac Efron wouldn't have much time to text. - The respondent asks if you've eaten yet (a common greeting in Nigeria where many scams originate) - The respondent calls her his Queen - emergencies or "investments" requiring her to send money. There are more. I'm sure you could search for "celebrity scams" and there's lots of info out there. Perhaps if your wife won't listen to you, you could enlist the help of her other family or friends. You can probably contact the team at Catfished on Youtube as well, as I believe they will help you find out if it's real or not. |

No one else has said this yet, but....
Protect yourself financially. Isolate your finances, look after your home expenses, whatever you have to do. If she is being catfished and scammed money is going to start leaving your household At some point, she will have to confront her delusions. She will have to go, Wow, I got totally sucked in and scammed and my husband is still here OR she is going to double down and cost your household even more money. Because, of course, Zac Efron will need money... RDMercer |

Eventually all scammers go after money as that’s why they are scamming. And when money is gone, it’s impossible to recover the money |
