Last week I found out that some relatives were trying to sabatoge my schooling at my college. Most of my mom's family and my real dad bully be, I had to keep away from them because it never stops. I tried being very nice, tried being religious, and tried to get rich to please them, they kept bullying or being inconsiderate. I am now just talking to my step-dad, sister, uncle, and sometimes grandma; the peaceful ones. I still feel some trauma in my brain and feel like a second-class citizen because of them and their treatment. I got really upset when a different uncle put my $150 shoes in a bag from his dumpster rather than a bag from under the sink, made me feel like I'm a bum to them, it hurt. Has anyone else dealt with anything like this situation? If so, how did you handle it?

Unkind relatives can be a huge burden, crushingly heavy to bear at times.

Often people who are unkind or brutal have been victimized or brutalized in their childhood. I don't say this to excuse their behavior.

Some people who were not loved sufficiently in childhood become mentally ill and some of their behavior springs from mental illness But cruelty , not matter what the source, is horribly painful to suffer.

I think it is good that you have put some distance between yourself and those who were and terribly are unkind to you.

Setting boundaries is often necessary in order to protect our mental health.

I can definitely identify with you from my experience with unkind relatives, so my heart goes out to you. I am so very, very sorry you are in that unhappy situation! Are you going to okay?

The best thing to do is disengage. Toxic people are addicted to drama and they don’t know how to respect the boundaries of others.

I posted about something similar to this a while back concerning my sister-in-law. Without getting into detail, I stood up to her and told her she's not running the show anymore. I hate confrontation but I was sick of being her doormat and I let her hear all about it. She hates me now and it is 1,000,000,000% worth it.

My mother blocked relatives out of her life and I only understood once I became an adult and realized how toxic they were. My mother has never had a problem cutting ties with nasty relatives.

You remove them from your life - and do you best not to look back. Stay in touch with the good ones, the ones who treat you right.
