Not sure if this is where I should post this, but here it is.

So a friend of mine's mom went on facebook, and joined T**** H**** hallmark channel pages, and has been talking to him. Its not him, and sent him money, plans on taking the husbands 401k, house, and selling everything to be with him.

The kids her and her husband have told her its a scam, and they just saw a marriage counselor who said the same thing, but she is still in contact, and doesn't believe anybody. Also sent this guy pictures of the kids, and their families.

My question is what do I do at this point to try and help save this marriage, and money problem? She's going to lose everything, and thinks she is doing nothing wrong.

I've seen tiktok videos exposing this scam, and articles. T**** H**** himself spoke out saying AI cloned his voice, and its not really him. She still believes she is talking to him. Also the tiktok videos I saw comments of other people doing the same thing, and getting scammed, but the person doesn't believe those family members either.

How can this issue get resolved? Please help.

This is not your problem to solve.

Husband needs to legally remove her from all financial matters.

He also needs to see that she is medically assessed to see if she has dementia or another judgment-altering illness.

After the above is done, he can consider whether he wants to stay married.

Especially agree that maybe she should be assessed for dementia or other neurological issues, especially if this is a change in personality for her.

One of the earliest signs of dementia my dad had was that he thought he was regularly talking to strangers in another country who wanted his money. In reality, he was not talking to anyone, but there's a startling disconnect from reality that stands out. In dad's case, he seemed relatively normal aside from these occasional delusions.

Also have to agree that it's not your problem to solve, but it is kind of you to look for solutions to help assist this family. Sometimes when you're in the thick of a crisis like this, it's hard to know which way is up. Someone who's a bit more objective (presumably like you are) may be a blessing to the family.

Her behavior seems like that of addiction to some extent too. She's chasing some fix that she's getting from interacting with this person/entity. It sort of seems like someone who knows that using a substance is probably going to eventually cost them everything, but they can't stop themselves because it feels so good. So, just as a thought, perhaps there's some type of addiction specialist who could address her compulsion; perhaps the family could even do an intervention?

You are so nice to offer your help, but be sure to tread lightly and keep your own boundaries intact.

How would she take our her husband's 401(k) without him?

How would she sell the house she presumably co-owns with her husband without him?

I read it that she was scheming to do these things with the online entity, not that she had done it or that it was even realistic.

Scheming has intent behind it whether realistic or not....the intent is the issue
