I heard my mother tell her cousin today that my father and I are very cheap and miserly. which means I am someone who is known for not spending money, or doesn’t lend it, or has a bad rep for doing so. I laughed along when she said that, but lost it when her cousin called me cheap. So rude, I cried so much (I’m crying as I write this), I thought I’ll never go to their church again to avoid her or her labels. Betrayal, when my mom said I am also a cheapskate. What an insult. How could she think such a thing? Am I even a human being for her?

My brother calls me cheap too. I think they are projecting while they steal the family's resources from us.

In some personalities, every accusation is a confession.

It's something they dislike in themselves so they put it on you.

Alternately, maybe she sees herself as profoundly generous, and feels superior by saying this to you.

People like this have power over us when they know their words affect us negatively.

I would be proud to be called that. It means I am budgeting the money I do have very responsibly. In my case that has proved to be important. I have my farm & my truck & I live within my means. My ex on the other hand lost the house we owned to foreclosure & had no idea where the money that should have been the 18 months of house payments even went to. I will take being a cheapskate any day to being financially irresponsible. Look at it as a compliment even if it isn't the way they meant it
