I am now almost 38 weeks pregnant, and my body is falling apart. My gallbladder pain is so bad, they're offering me oxycodon and morpheine, I have continual painful contractions (although not regular enough that they can do an emergency c-section before 39 weeks), my potassium has dropped to 2.8 again and after a trip to the maternity ER on Monday night where I was told that I was in early labor, flew my mother-in-law down to the tune of $675 we couldn't afford so we would have someone to watch the boys while we delivered, only to be told that labor had stopped and be sent home! Saw my OB today, who is extremely apologetic that the "rules" don't allow him to take the baby, and he cannot believe that I have carried this long. I am measuring 43 weeks, she is at about 8 pounds and and my boys were both delivered (healthy) by c-section at 38 weeks, and the pain is almost intolerable! Here's the humor: the doc gave me more pain medicine and prescribed...daily vaginal sex!! No kidding, it's written right on my visit form! And to quote him "it doesn't matter if you enjoy it, although I'm sure he will, as long as he ejaculates inside you. The semen will soften the cervix, and maybe we can get you into labor!". Now here's the punchline...my husband and I are still separated!!!!!

It's OK, you can laugh, I did!

I know lots of women who have been told to have vaginal sex to prepare for delivery.....I think you doc is right on...but dang...being separated puts a new light on that one doesn't it? LOL

I'm a bit concerned that they are not planning on another c-section. I was under the impression that women who have had more than one c-section should then always have a c-section. Hmmm...maybe I'm misinformed??

I am having another c-section (June 10th), but the "rules" have changed (due to medical malpractice suits!), and they will not do one before 39 weeks unless I go into hard labor, my water breaks, or the baby is in distress. Mommy may be in agonizing pain, exhausted, and unable to sleep, but this beautiful little girl I am carrying seems to be doing great!

In spite of everything, I amd so excited to meet this little person inside me, and I do find the irony of my OB's prescription for sex at this point in my marriage quite amusing...

Is your doctor cute? Maybe he can do the honors. Artificial insemination to induce labor?

You are one real trooper! I admire you for finding humor in all of this, while in pain, no less. I can't wait for news of the little girl!

I hope all is well with the baby. Don't post your doc's name, every man here will have his wife visiting him!

I thought a typical pregnancy was 40 weeks? So how could you be measuring at 43 weeks as babies don't even stay inside that long? If you're at 38 weeks now, that is only 2 weeks shy of the typical 40 weeks. Babies are considered to be "fullterm" at 37 weeks, so anytime after that should be safe for you to deliver. Anyhow, that's how I learned it.... I'm sorry the new rules have gotten more restrictive. Hang in there!!

sabby, yes, if you have had one c-section, you can indeed have subsequent vaginal deliveries. As long as everything goes well, of course.

wounded, another thing to try to bring on labor is exercise. I did a lot of walking in my last couple of weeks.

Too funny what the doctor recommended. OK everyone, here's a good laugh for ya! You should have asked him where you should go to find the sexual partner and see what he said.
