Doesn’t have any calming effect whatsoever
|

I was put on .5mg of klonopin to take once in the morning everyday for severe anxiety and panic. She said I can take it once in the evening as well if I feel it is needed. I don’t feel the effects of it at all. My doctor said that it would have a calming effect and may even make me slower and more tired but it doesn’t do that. I’m not sure if the dose is just too small or what, but when I took Ativan as needed that produced the calming effect almost instantly. I’m wondering if I should ask my doctor if I can take Ativan everyday until she finds an antidepressant that works for me.

I take this medication for my GAD and Anxiety due to PTSD and certain situations.
I've been on .05mg and 1mg. .05 works best for me when dealing with anxiety on a daily basis. It relaxes me without making me sleepy or zombie like.
The 1mg I prefer taking only as needed, it works fast and mellows me out completely.
I have only had good experiences with this medication, absolutely no side effects for me.

I took this medication for 9 years. It served its purpose at the time. I would recommend this medication as a last resort. If you can't find another anti-anxiety that helps you and your anxiety is really bad, then I'd take this one. It really isn't worth taking it for a long period of time like I did. It makes you too tired, which interferes with your life. I say it is only worth taking it to get over a really bad bout of anxiety or when nothing else has helped you.

Kicked the anxiety out pretty quick, treats some symptoms of Conversion Disorder
|
CONS:
|
Risk of dependency, too high of a dose makes me belligerent
|
|
I had severe somatatory symptoms of anxiety prior to my CD dx, which caused me to lose 40lbs in 1.5 months and another 40lbs over the course over about seven months prior to that. It allowed me to eat again and helped with the tremors caused by the conversion disorder episodes and kept the GAD under control. It also helped to ease the emetophobia and allowed me to take control of some of my life again; however, dosing could be difficult as too much made me unbearably belligerent.

I take 4.5mgs daily and it does make my anxiety tolerable. I have been taking this medication for 10+ years now. At one point I was taking 6mgs daily. I saw a new Psychiatrist and she immediately began a wean down schedule. This is not a medication you can just stop taking. You will go through withdrawal which makes you terribly ill. My advice is to never start taking any Benzodiazepine unless you've exhausted all other treatment possibilities.

Take 1.5 mg in the morning and it lasts about 8 or so hours
|
CONS:
|
It use to help calm my panic attacks. Now I need to take an additional 1 mg extra for panic
|
|
I was taking 1.5 mg of Xanax per day for 5 years, but after doing much research I asked my Dr. to switch me to Clonazepam, as it works longer- usually 8 or 9 hours. I have been on it for 15 years and am prescribed up to 2 mg daily . I take 1.5 mg in the morning and it does help reduce my anxiety(GAD) .
However, I do have Panic Disorder also and when I get a panic attack..I have to take an additional 1 mg in order to calm me down.
I do feel dependent on this med , and am very slowly reducing my daily dosage (cut down to 1.25 mg from 1.5 mg over the course of 3 weeks) with no problems. I am hoping that one day I will only have to take it for Panic attacks .. which I usually get when under a lot of stress or going to the Dentist .

Was prescribed this just for sleep trouble. 2mg/day for 5 years, then all hell broke loose. Drug stopped working. Took 6 months to wean off. Extreme anxiety and depression started which I never had before. 6 months later had to go back on. Now in hell again because of tolerance withdrawal. If I can ever get off again I will stay far away from this Med. Worst experience of my life. It has destroyed a large part of my life and still fighting to get back to normal.

I have been taking Rivotril, also called Clonazepam from http://generic-meds-store (seriously, this place sucks) (it's a lot cheaper here)for a couple years. I started on 1.5 mg at night and have been up to 5mg but I have managed to get down to 2mg. It works well by "taking the edge off". I'm able to get through the day much better. I have an easier time making conversations with people, and I'm not as nervous at work. However, it has side effects. It makes me drowsy. It builds dependence and tolerance when taken long-term. I take it on weekends only.

Years ago I was prescribed Klonopin for panic attacks. This year (2015) Medicare raised my copay on my sleep medicine, Ambien from $8 to $95.00, you read that right!! $95.00 That was the problem for my Psychiatrist and I
Medicare raised the copay on the few sleep meds that actually worked for me to $95.00. So we decided to up the dosage on the Klonopin where for the time being the copay stayed at $8. I take 3 before going to bed and I actually go to sleep for anywhere from 6-8 hrs and wake up around 6-7am with mo residual effects. I do still take it for panic attacks when needed and it works well for me. I experience no side effects from taking this medication.

depression at high doses, addictive

Out of all the benzos I've tried, Klonopin is by far my favorite. It manages to be both very fast acting and longer-lasting than other common benzos. However, I personally was unable to tolerate anything over 0.5mg at a time - increasing it to 1 or 2mg made me very depressed and confused. I have taken 0.5mg 3x daily for around 2 years and have not had problems with tolerance (I can't increase my dose anyways though), but it is definitely addictive and I would be wary of quitting cold-turkey.

Quite effective in treating anxiety, long half-life.

Can be habit-forming, tolerance is developed over time (requiring a higher dose).

I've been prescribed between 0.5mg and 3mg over the past three years (depending on my anxiety levels & tolerance build-up), and I must say, for me it is quite effective at taking the edge off anxiety and panic attacks, and it also helps me get to sleep. Personally the only real issue I've run into was the dangerous interaction between high doses of this, and alcohol. However, it is definitely worth giving a shot, and I would recommend it.

Works for a while. Then the dose needs tethering up and up until no doc feels safe prescribing it anymore.

When the gabaergic afinity tolerance is greater than the courage and sympathy from the doctor, thats when the nightmare begins..
|
|
My experience with clonazepam is almost like a love story. And it began in my early teens. But became a nightmare in the end. Many years later. Sounds dramatic, i know. But this is no picnic in the park. This will mark you for life if you get addicted. Every addiction is different. And my addiction to clonazepam has become a fight for my identity. My quality of life. My freedom! When the damage is done and the body is chemically dependent on a steady dose, every day, year after year. And i see little point in doctors, psychiatrist and therapists "fanatically" using every resource at hand to get the patient in question to enter rehab, detox, "get off benzo!" they say. "You may come addicted and you shall not exceed usage of benzodiazepine more than 3 weeks"..
- Funny. Up 18 years now. 3 times ive tried without clonazepam. The first time; 9 months of total eclipse. The second time; almost catatonic for 8 months. The third time i really tried. 6 months. could not take it no more.
So clonazepam is effective in the part its playing. I am panic attack free whilst on the drug. But the catch is. Once in its claw, its hard to get off..

Long lasting anti-anxiety drug, reduced chance of addiction

CONS:

Eventual habituation, and increase in dose needed

It's a benzodiazepine and they all basically work the same in suppressing the nervous system. They are anti-seizure meds that also act as anti-anxiety drugs. Benzos are the mainline defense against anxiety. They make you groggy at first and that gradually subsides. I like this benzo because it stays in your system for a long time reducing the chance for abuse. The short acting benzos like ativan and xanax are more dangerous if you have an addictive personality because of their short half-life. This drug has been my life-long sleep aid along with trazodone for the past 10 years. The biggest caveat is that they gradually lose their effect over time and dosage adjustment is necessary along with cognitive therapy to get at the root of your anxiety.

acute withdrawal syndrome. tolerance. long term therapy not very effective

I would urge anyone who thinks withdrawal from clonazepam is an "overblown" notion to strongly reconsider. I am a substance abuse counselor and have taken clonazepam on and off for years. It is absolutely certain that benzodiazepines (along with acute alcohol addiction) cause the worst, and by all means, most potentially fatal acute withdrawal in the entire pharmacopia. I have gone through it. It included grand mal seizures, psychosis, hallucination, arrhythmia and countless other symptoms. It is far worse than opiate withdrawal. I was on 1mg, twice daily, for less than a year. Do not attempt stopping without a lengthy taper. Due to long half-life, withdrawal can take up to 5 days to begin. This can deceive you into thinking you will not withdraw, then it hits like a week long bad LSD trip. With seizures.
That aside, in smaller or PRN uses, it can be among the fastest acting, low side-effect drugs for panic disorder. And it will work. However, owing to the risks, it is rapidly falling out of fashion with doctors.

Very good thus far. I think the claims of addiction and withdraw are very overblown. If taken as prescribed and not mixed with other stuff (illegal drugs and excess alcohol) it is a great drug.

The problem with klonopin is that it's fantastic for a short time. Tolerance, however, happens quickly, then physical dependence. After a long time of use I've experienced cognitive problems such as memory loss and blunted thinking. Withdrawing from the k-pin is absolutely, hands down the worst experience ever.

I took this when I was having stress due to major problems and changes in my life. I took this when I was at a conference because large crowds are anxiety-provoking for me, but I ended up spending most of the conference in my bed asleep. Very good anxiolytic, but might be a little too sedating. I should note I was prescribed (0.5 - 1 mg), but took above my prescribed dose a few times (up to 2 mg [which is still a prescribed dose]). During those times I was emotionless and mean to others. Be wary to take a therapeutic dose.

I only take it when I am experiencing debilitating anxiety or nervousness and it is very effective at calming me. It can make me feel like a bit of a zombie so I have to be careful when I take it. I find that the side effects are most noticable early on and wear off over time. So if I am going to be in a social situation I try to give myself a few hours leeway.

I have been on this medication for years for anxiety. I started on Xanax originally (in combination with my other meds) but it has a sharp drop-off rate and rebound anxiety when it wears off, and requires higher doses to continue getting the same effect. Clonazepam lasts about 8 hours, wears off gradually, and doesn't make me too impaired to function. Downside--it's physically addicting; it will take many sleepless nights to wean myself off it (if I ever get around to it).

PROS:

Helps with anxiety and sleep disorders.
|
CONS:
|
Even small doses make me very drowsy.

I was prescribed this medication for sleep issues and anxiety and it works very well. The only thing I don't like is that even in small doses it is very sedating.
