I didn't get that far...

Extreme fatigue
|
|
Being in the UK our prescriptions all cost the same which is pretty massively lower than other people pay so I can't vouch for the drug price.
I took this for about a week, it didn't really do what I'd been given it for which was to take away the sharp pain in my back which my Doctor had said was nerve pain. It dulled it slightly, it didn't take it away.
I've heard it can be used for mood disorders which I also have but wasn't aware of this at the time, it didn't change my mood at all.
I did notice my weight crept up despite eating exactly the same- as I have an eating disorder I am fundamentally fixated on eating exactly the same thing, same time, same amount, exercising the same (despite huge waves of fatigue I struggled with- exercise was measured on a Polar heart rate monitor- this registered calories, with the fatigue, it just took longer to exercise- same amount done). I still gained weight. And as I wasn't aware why, it pushed a huge relapse in my eating disorder. For this I will never forgive this drug and will be very wary of any future drugs I take. I had been well for 5 years, the longest stretch I'd ever had...I am still struggling to get past this relapse, it's been 3 years now.
I had to stop taking this due to the extreme fatigue. I tried taking it for a month altogether though really only managed a full week where I took it every day because I am not good at remembering to take pills- the other weeks at least 70% of the time I would have taken it. The fatigue had me falling asleep in the middle of the day on a bus and not understanding where I'd ended up- at what bus depot. It never went away. This pill was not for me and I was on the lowest dose!

It's unpredictable

This drug has helped me as an anti-anxiety med, mood-stablizer, and sleep aid. Very short half-life so frequent dosing is needed. Very clean drug, exists your system pretty quickly. Taken 3 times a day and if I time my dosages wrong I don't know what kind of side effects I'm in for. They include feeling groggy, feeling manic, cramps, nausea, and headaches. I'm willing to accept these because I wouldn't be able to function because of my extreme anxiety.

Doesn't really do anything

Tried this for anxiety, insomnia, and pain. Did not really do anything, at any dose. Got frustrated with pain one time and took 2400 mg (within prescribed range); was an absolutely braindead zombie the next day.

eh. I'm currently on 900mg 3x a day. Been that way for over a year. No side effects but not doing its job, either. Scheduled to see a specialist in February.

mania and I feel whacked out

This drug helps me get things done but it also makes me feel crazed, and it was prescribed for anxiety, so this isn't right at all.
I also had an interaction the first time I took it, with ativan. I got extremely sick (physically too) and was also hallucinating.

Improved mood, decreased mania, help me sleep for first time in months, absence of migraines
|
CONS:

Took a little building up of morning dosage due to initial sedative effect.

Excellent. I take this for bipolar disorder. It has greatly improved the quality of my moods, sleep patterns, stopped manic symptoms & even stopped hormonal migraines I've experienced most of my adult life.

Some drowsiness for a while, effectiveness wears down a little
|
|
I've been using neurontin for Restless Legs Syndrome for over a year, and I love it. I can get massages, and relax without my legs (and/or arms) going nuts. It also helped with my anxiety too. Only downside is that the initial effectiveness can wear down and you have to up your dosage a little. No big deal. It helped me sleep better at night until my anti-depressant gave me insomnia.

Helps nerve pain
|
CONS:

none I can find
|

In May of 2006 I fell and broke my arm. Not a simple break, the humerus snapped in two. The nerve was partially caught in the break but I had to wait for surgery. The burning, numbness and pain in my left hand was almost unbearable and kept getting worse. A pain management specialist gave me neurontin and it saved my life. I still have nerve pain, and I still take the neurontin, but then the doctor who did the surgery took 5 hours to "tease" the nerve off the bone. I know neurological insults like mine may take years to work themselves out, or they may not work out at all. Meanwhile, I am so grateful for neurontin.

Seven years ago at the extreme peak of my depression and psychosis I finally admitted to a need for help. I had described my head like a broken hard drive that could not hold onto any information. The first pill given to me was Neurontin. On my way driving to a first follow up session, it hit me with a tremendous impact that suddenly realized that I had been holding one thought and processing it normally. The thought itself was irrelevant to the event. I'd read that it can reduce chronic pain. My left shoulder was impaired by pain in the joint, and had been for a year. Two weeks later I had full motion, no pain and developed the muscles around it again. It is the most benign drug out there for interactions. Based on my early experience I have kept them in my medley for no other reason than "why the hell not?"

Large pills, plus at night taking two large capsules that make me gag :)

I would rate this a 10, but I noticed the effects seemed to wear off, or I just get used to the feeling it causes.

caused permanent muscle damage to L hand and arm
|
|
This drug caused my L hand/arm to atrophy in less than 7 days of being on it. I have been off of it for over 8 years and I still have permanent musclue and nerve damage due to this drug.
Ironically I am taking Lyrica which is the "Son of Neurontin". The Lyrica works great for my nerve pain.

It works!

CONS:

Large pill to swallow

It also has an off-label use for anxiety and it really works! I would NEVER allow myself to become addicted to a benzo when Neurontin is available.
