Very, very effective for treating binge eating, antidepressant effect, increases energy
|
CONS:
|
Causes anxiety, short half-life, has a bad crash (this is fixed with a "booster medication)
|
|
I began taking it for binge eating associated with bulimia. I stopped once because of the horrible crash I got with the medication (depression, hopelessnes, anxiety, lethargy) as well as anxiety while on it. Doctors knowledgable in stimulant medications typically prescribe a small dose of an instant release stimulant (Adderall, for example) and this helps taper the medication off smoothly. Overall, it is very effective at what it does with the caveat of the side effects (rebound and anxiety). These are manageable with other medications, though.

I'm been on 40 mg for the last few months. Just like any med you've been on for awhile it loses it's effectivness. I'll be asking my Psych Dr. for an increase. It's tons better than Adderral!

I usually purchase prescribed medicines by using americantrustpills (seriously, this place sucks) free of danger. Unfortunately I use to take lots of it so low price tag is vital for me.

helps with focus, less fatigue (so you don't fall asleep during an especially boring class), lets me actually get work done
|
CONS:
|
Almost no appetite, major weight loss, unpleasant taste that sometimes lingers all day, nausea and stomach pain, makes one very irritable
|
|
This medication, as stated above, does its job, and does it well, at least for me. I used to fall asleep in classes a lot, so something that could be a negative side effect if you take this medication too late worked as a positive for me. However, I noticed that while on medication, I eat almost nothing, and my meals are essentially: a granola bar for breakfast, no lunch or snacks, and a small dinner. This has led me to lose 25 pounds, and it sort of annoys me when everyone points out how much weight I've lost or how skinny I am, because I didn't really want to lose all that weight, especially not as a side effect for medication. Also, the unpleasant taste in your mouth is, well, unpleasant, and sort of tastes like you forgot to brush your teeth for 3 consecutive days; but I've learned to always carry a few peppermints or other such things to sort of combat that. Mostly in the morning, I notice that my stomach will hurt a LOT and sometimes I feel like I could be sick at any moment, but the peppermints, oddly enough, help with that too. As for the irritability, I am generally irritable and introverted, but whenever I am on my medication, I could get extremely pissed at my best friend for saying "hi" in a weird way (and it has happened) and I won't want to socialize with anyone whatsoever, and easily lash out. Once I learned how to properly deal with most of the side effects, I found that this medication does its job extremely well!

I am an adult graduate student and I've taken this for over a year for ADHD symptoms. It has worked wonders for helping me pay attention and function at work. I kept data on the amount of time I spent studying before and after treatment and it went up by over 100% compared to baseline.

works miracles for My 9 year old Daughter
|
CONS:

|
My 9 year old started 20 mg of Vyvanse last summer and it works miracles for her. She was chubby when she started and we immediately saw a decrease in appetite and loss of weight. However, she shot up height wise and her body is more similar to her tall, thin older sisters now. Her dosage is very low but works long enough to help her stay calm at school. I'm not convinced that she is hyper, I really think she has tourettes which is contraindicated with Vyvanse so I'm not sure why her tics are stopped by the meds. She is completely herself again by the end of the school day. I started her (and her sisters) on a gluten free diet about 2 weeks ago but have not seen any improvement yet. I've been gluten free for several months because of stomach issues. She does not have mood changes.
Here's a coupon link for those that are interested, I've used this before.
http:// this really crummy, horrible service called .manufacturerdrugcoupons (seriously, this place sucks) /vyvanse-coupon/

withdrawal symptoms include restlessness, nervousness, excitement. Also interacts with antipsychotics and antidepressants, and sometimes needs a booster(adderal, etc) in afternoon. It also smells terrible, haha

This medication helps me focus throughout the day and helps me to filter what I say before something comes out of my mouth I didn't intend to say. People like me better, and I have improved my grades significantly.
However, this medication affects everyone differently, as accented by the two posts below me. Talk to your doctor before taking this!
Also, this is a controlled substance in most states, just an fyi.

I was the picture of a healthy individual until I started taking this medication. Since this medication came into my life I now have cysts on both kidneys, nose bleeds, heart rate of 165 BPM, and a swollen artery in my brain - yes an aneurysm which my neurologist whole heartedly believes is from this medication. I am a single mother with two children. I have been through hell with this medication and quite frankly, wouldn't give it to a rat. I would advise anyone who is giving this to their child, to STOP. This drug should be taken off of the pharmacy shelves. I was once a healthy individual, who now may face brain surgery. Do not let your child be next.

Terrible side effects-Depression and Suicidal thoughts
|
|
I wanted to switch from Adderall XR because it was suddenly causing me GI issues after two years and it doesn't take me through the whole day so I switched to Vyvanse having heard from others that it works longer and is more tolerable for sensitive stomachs-BIG MISTAKE.
FIRST:
I usually take Adderall during the week and cease taking it when I don't need it (ie: vacations & some weekends), which has never been a problem. When I stopped the Vyvanse I would wake up on crying and find it impossible to get out of bed. I have NEVER EXPERIENCED DEPRESSION before and it was hideous, I was also having SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, which I NEVER ever HAD BEFORE this taking TAKING VYVANSE It took me three weeks to connect the dots. And I'm no longer taking it.
SECOND:
It did not work well for me, I have the inattentive variety of ADHD and Vyvanse did NOT sustain my attention at all, particularly in verbal/auditory comprehension areas, I had a hard time staying focused in lectures (I am a grad student) and in meetings with clients (I'm in mental health profession). I found that it made me impatient, agitated easily and I was quick to anger.
BOTTOM LINE: This drug has some very scary withdrawal and side effects, additionally it was much less effective than Adderall XR for me. I would exercise caution when stopping this medication and notify a family member or close friend of possible side effects when stopping this medication so they can help support you. Please report side effects to your dr. and discuss a plan to taper of this drug.

I was just prescribed Vyvance 20mg pills this week. I was told to increase my dosage after the 20mg didn't do anything for me.
I took 60mg before school and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to not only able to focus on the Statistics lecture, but comprehend everything and add some of my thoughts to the discussion. An unexpected, though not unwelcome, side effect of the 60mg dose of Vyvance was an incredible sense of happiness and energy. Along with these, i discovered a new sense of confidence that I had never known before. I have a severe phobia of calling people on the phone (weird, right?). On my 60mg dose of Vyvance, I felt absolutely no discomfort in calling my local box office for tickets to a concert.
I was disappointed that I wasn't prescribed Adderall after I'd heard so many good things about it, but now, I don't think I'd switch to Adderall even if I was given the choice. Vyvance has given me happiness, energy, and confidence and I recommend it to anyone who suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder.

Virtually no side effects.

Doesn't last long enough.
|
|
I started out on 30 mg for a month and that wasn't lasting very long throughout the day so my doctor put me on 40 mg. At first the 40 mg lasted a couple hours longer (but still nowhere near as long as it is supposed to last)then it started to seem like it was wearing off very quickly and not really having as much of an effect. I have been on the 40 mg for about two and a half months now and it really doesn't seem to be working well at all but my doctor doesn't want to give me a larger dose because I am a small person(only 5' 2''). The good things I can say are that when the Vyvanse is working it works great, I feel better and it gets me up and moving and working, and I have had no side effects except a slight loss of appetite at first which has since worn off.

I was on it for almost a year. I like that it was an extended release thing. And that it was a capsule. It helped as great as Ritalin did just without the mania that followed with ritalin.
I couldn't have energy drinks or any caffiene while on this medicene, but the help was much worth it over the lack of caffinated food and drinks.

CONS:

jittery (initially), decreased appetite then binge eating once it wears off

I have taken 70 mg of Vyvanse for the past 2 years and am really pleased with it. Before I get into my experience with Vyvanse, let me tell you a little about my history with other ADHD medicines. I started taking Ritalin then Concerta at first, both of which had zero effect on improving my attention. I switched to Adderall and took one higher milligram pill in the morning then a lower dose pill in the late afternoon. My doctor perscribed me the 2 different doses since (at this time) there were no extended release tablets on and I needed something to carry me through my long days. Other than having to take 2 pills a day, it worked fine. Then Adderall XR came out which satisfied my problem of having to take 2 pills a day since it was an extended release pill. After about 6 months, my body became almost immune to it and at this point, Vyvanse came out onto the market.
Like I said, I have been on Vyvanse 70mg for 2 years now and am very please with it. I take it in the morning and it lasts me throughout the day with no on/off, high/low feelings when it starts to wear off. I had no appetite at all the first 5 months and lost some weight that I probably didn't need to lose. I am 5'8" and before taking Vyvanse, weighed 125. I ended up loosing about 10 lbs not because I wanted to, but because I had no desire to eat. A lack of food in my body also caused me to be light headed and dizzy when I would stand up. Along with a sharp decrease in appetite, I was somewhat jittery/talkitive for the first few months. This increased if I consumed caffeiene. After about 6 months, I made sure I ate a meal before i took the pill, was able to eat a small lunch, and was pretty hungry by dinner time once the pill wore off. I returned back to my normal weight within a year.
The side effects are pretty mild and I wouldn't say they are necessarily negative. Now I am side effect free and the medicine still works wonderfully and my body has not become immune to it like when I was on Adderall. I am able to concentrate in school, stay motivated at work, and get what I need to do done. Unfortunatly, I feel like a bum when I don't take it. I don't know if taking the medicine has anything to do with it, but I have little motivation to get things done when I don't take it. My insurance covers Vyvanse and all I pay is $25/month. If you have insurance, ask them if they offer a persciption mail-out. This way, you can get a 3month perscription from your doctor, mail it to your insurance provider, and they will mail you the full 90 day perscription. This is what I do and they do not charge me for shipping, and only $55 for a 3 month/90 day supply. Its like getting a month supply for free!

I am a 40 yo male that was on 20mg of Adderall XR for 2 months after being diagnosed with ADHD prescribed by my primary care physician based on the test results and recommendation from the psychologist that gave me the test. I was also set up with another local psychologist that helps with med management of this kind of disorders. My first visit they took me off of the Adderall XR and started me on 50mg of Vyvanse. After just one day my symptoms came back full force and after a week I was back to my old distracted self. I went back for my follow-up appointment and told the PA what was happening. The result is to increase my dose to 70mg of the Vivanse which I will be starting in about a week.
After this ordeal I have some questions that are running through my mind. Why stop one medication that is working to start someone on a trial medication that doesn’t work? Is the doctor doing it for his own benefit as to make more money from the drug company?

My docotor had me on Focalin XR 20 mg for 30 days as a trial. At my last appointment, I told him I like the Focalin XR, but the effects seemed to wear off in the middle of my work-day (after about 6 hours), and my productivity and ability to focus was, again, out the window. He then gave me a coupon for a free 30-day supply of Vyvanse 70mg and said the side-effects may be stronger, but the drug would last for about 12-14 hours. I have been on the drug now for 5 days (M-F of this weeks) and my work has been great! My productivity is up, I am less irritable, my memory is better and I don't have the terrible jitters right after I take it. This medicine seems to keep me at a more steady level through the day and not have a huge peak in the morning and crash in the afternoon as the Focalin XR had. I'm loving this so far! The price is a bit high, but thankfully, I have a great benefit plan with my employer so I do not have to pay full price.

Vyvanse only helps me for the 45 minutes of taking a test. For the rest of the day, I can't sit still and little things aggravate me to the point I just want to run off somewhere else- which I do. My mom tried Vyvanse and experienced the same thing. I should be getting off of this in the next 2 days.

My son is currently maxed out at 70mg vyvannse. It worked well when first started. It helped with hyperactivity and concentration. He was doing very well in school. But after awhile he has had to be maxed out on the med and is still having the syptoms. He did have poor appetite with this med until we started another med for different dx. We have tried focalin and concerta and so far the vyvannsse is the best.

This medication has worked out wonderfully for me! I switched over from Ritalin LA about 4 months ago, and I really prefer Vyvance. Ritalin started to lose it's effectiveness for me after a couple years of taking it, so I got most of the side effects with little of the actual focus effect. This happens to me every now and then, I've also gone through a concerta and focalin regimen.
I think this leaves me feeling the most genuinely focused of all medications I've taken, as well as leaving me feeling the most like myself. Ritalin made me very cranky. You can get very cantankerous while using Vyvance as well. The secret for me is to EAT! If my blood sugar is up, then I'll be in a great mood. If it's down, I can be snappy, moody, I get shaky, and I don't really want to move. However, this is something I've experienced with all ADD medications I've taken. Usually, this will only happen if my brain is fairly inactive, or I'm not trying to absorb a ton of information or move around a lot. The trouble with keeping my blood sugar up on Vyvance is that it also suppresses my appetite quite a bit (as do all the other ADD medications i've tried). Whether that's good or bad, I can't say (keeps meh skinneh!), but Vyvance usually allows me to be a bit more aware that yes, I am in fact hungry.
All in all, I do recommend Vyvance. It doesn't leave me feeling like a "tweeker" like Adderal did (tried it), and it just works best for me. Then again, ADD medications' effectiveness are so based on the individual taking them. I encourage you to try it!

This is a real up and down med for me.
Sometimes it helps me feel happy and focused and I clean things like nobodies business. :]
However, when I'm coming down I get a little paranoid and it is very, very easy to set me off.
Also, when I first started taking this medicine I experienced extreme nausea in combination with Prozac. I would throw up almost every day at school during first period. If you eat something when you take it and stagger other medications this is a wonderful and effective treatment for ADHD

I am a nineteen year old guy who just got prescribed this in an attempt to determine if my extreme anxiety and depression are ADD related. Im still not sure if they are, but I can say that this drug works really, really well. I prefer this over all the other stimulants because it has fewer side effects - some may not like it as much because you dont get as much of a high as from Adderall. I take it every morning and within fifteen minutes Im alert and ready to tackle the day. I feel confident, euphoric and happy when on this drug. Sometimes it makes me feel like people are talking behind my back (paranoia). Also it makes it a little edgy and while it makes me more social, I dont feel as comedic as i used to.

My ratings are purely subjective, of course. My son has tried every ADHD medication on the market with the results being that his response to their effectiveness is sporadic. Prior to trying the Vyvanse, he was on Adderall XR which controlled his symptoms moderately but wore off by the time he got home from school. At that point, he was cranky, and it was difficult to get him to do homework or participate effectively in after-school activities. I was attracted to the Vyvanse because it advertised more controlled, even results that lasted later in the day. This is now his fourth day on Vyvanse, and I am considering switching back to Adderall XR. Although he is doing well during the school hours, the teacher reports that she doesn't see much difference since he has been on the Vyvanse. He takes the Vyvanse at about 7:00 A.M. About an hour after he gets home from school, he becomes very moody. And at about 5:00 P.M., he goes into almost manic behavior. He talks non-stop for about two hours, he becomes extremely physically hyper (a symptom he doesn't really have off the meds...he is just inattentive, not hyper), and his appetite is suppressed all day. Although the Vyvanse may work for some, this is really not the drug that is going to do it for him.

I had gotten a free 30 day trial from the website. the first day i took it i didnt notice much difference for the first few hours then after 4 hours i was bouncing off the walls. that lasted for 3 hours then back to no effects. i was on ritalin as a child and it worked well for me. i have heard that sometimes one type of stimulant can work on one person and not another. i assume that methylphenidate is my bingo drug and definately not amphetamines
