Positive aspects of the product (pros): Integrates findings from all the orientations and is very holistic
Negative aspects of the product (cons): Is hard to make progress when one orientation isn't used over another

Helps me deal with all areas of my life. I value the CBT and IPT aspects of it more than the others.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): helps with symptoms
Negative aspects of the product (cons): memory loss

I have had a total of 25 ECTs since 2004. I have been losing memory with each treatment. On my last treatment they and I decided that I would not have anymore because I felt like I was dying. I remember every aspect of the treatment. THey couldnt get me under good and so I experienced the part of the treatment where they actually perform the shock and when they were giving me the anestesia I fell like i was being smothered and was going to die. Very scary experience.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): It's not boring, and I made a lot of progress with it.
Negative aspects of the product (cons):

Eclectic therapists use a range of therapies. It is not the same as ECT. My Eclectic therapist was by far the best. Other therapies have been boring and seemed pointless.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): A reboot of my brain
Negative aspects of the product (cons): long term memory loss

ECT was the last resort of treatment for me. I was going through meds at a unbeliveable rate. Nothing worked. My meds DR told me about this and every type of risk involved. 14 sessions later I was much better. My short term memory was a little odd for a while but my long term got hit the worst. I lost some of my old memories that were hurting me. No real loss for me but I have been slowly getting back items anywhere from 1986 to the mid 90's up to now.Recovery was slow and is still going on ,but I can't say I regret it at all. Now I'm on less meds that work and do feel better. This mat not be for everyone but for me it was a real plus for me to move on in my treatment.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Practitioners can provide individualized therapy designed to meet the needs of their individual clients, rather than a "one size fits all" approach.
Negative aspects of the product (cons): None

I know Eclectic Therapy as a term used to describe flexible therapists who use more than one approach in practice. For example, a therapist using some elements of CBT, some Psychodynamic, and some Humanist, would be said to be eclectic. I think therapists who call themselves eclectic have a bigger "toolkit" with which to help clients than therapists using strictly one approach. Being skilled in multiple philsophophies or approaches allows the therapist to choose what he and his client decide are best for the client.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): brought me out of a catonic type of depression
Negative aspects of the product (cons): damaged short term memory

ECT saved my life. Before it I was so depressed I was no longer there. You could tell by my eyes. I did have some problems with ECT though. on my last treatment they couldn't get me out of the seizure (normally 45 seconds) and I ended up having a grand mal seizure that lasted 3.5 minutes. I temporary lost language and it damaged my short term memnory (for a while I had a form of amnesia). most of my memories are returning, however the years 2002, 2003, and 2004 will forever be lost to me. All this said, I still reccomend ECT. What happened to me was a fluke. I know many others who have had ECT and then a couple followups each year with no problems.
