Latuda (lurasidone) is an antipsychotic medication that works by changing the effects of chemicals in the brain. It is not known how these changes impact a person's mood or behavior.

Latuda is FDA-approved to treat schizophrenia in adults. It is also used to treat depression associated with bipolar I disorder.

Take Latuda exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

Latuda should be taken with food.

Use Latuda regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely.

It may take several weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

Serious side effects of Latuda:

dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeats;

agitation, hostility, confusion, thoughts about hurting yourself;

seizure (convulsions);

fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat;

high blood sugar (increased thirst, increased urination, hunger, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision, weight loss);

very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, feeling like you might pass out;

trouble swallowing; or

twitching or uncontrollable movements of your eyes, lips, tongue, face, arms, or legs.

Less serious side effects of Latuda

drowsiness;

feeling restless;

nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, loss of appetite;

blurred vision;

PROS: Nothing
CONS: Intense, severe side effects

The first day taking this medication went fine, however, that night I noticed that I was super overheating and despite being exhausted, I could not fall asleep. Next morning, I went for a walk and halfway through, I was basically falling asleep while I was walking and keep in mind, I was not exhausted or tired much initially (literally happened out of nowhere). Then, I got home with difficulty. Next thing I know, I am having painful , uncontrollable muscle twitches. I cannot speak without slurring, my vision is blurry. I cannot stop trembling and my anxiety levels were through the roof. Eventually just slept it off but the effects were present for up to a week afterwards.

PROS: It has worked the best at controlling my mood (paired with trileptal and adderal)
CONS: Side effects (vomiting)

I am happy that it works. I don't know if it is a long term solution due to the nausia and vomiting.

PROS: Some antidepressant effects, reduction in racing thoughts/anxiety
CONS: You have to take it with food on your stomach, highly sedating, better options, caused hypomania

It's okay. I don't want to say it's terrible, but the fact that you have to take it with at least 350 calories (and it is highly sedating, so you have to eat this at night) makes it probably the most difficult medication to manage besides an MAOI. Better options, but it works for some people. Not a great antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication, but it is okay. Triggered hypomania in me.

PROS: elation
CONS: extreme suicidal thinking, slept 3 hours every other day for 5 months

Nightmare for me. Whole family moved out of house. Very little sleep. Hospitalized from it. Suicide attempt after 20 years of regular suicidal thinking.

PROS: It works like nothing I've ever taken!
CONS: Cost, Sleepiness, Eating with it is required

It is an essential part of treating my Schizoaffective disorder and depression. Unfortunately, it is expensive, even with insurance. I have to take it at night because it makes me very sleepy, which means I have to eat a nighttime meal of at least 350 calories. I do hate that I can't have grapefruit while on it, but such is life.

PROS: it works
CONS: none

I often purchase proposed medicines via americantrustpills (seriously, this place sucks) free of danger. Sadly I use to take plenty of it so minimal expense is crucial for me.

PROS: It works in stabilising my BPII
CONS: It requires a 350 calorie meal and will send you to sleep once you take it.

My experience with Latuda has been very good overall. Early on I experienced significant swelling in both legs but this subsided after a few months. The drug demands a 350 calorie meal which can be hard to manage alongside its side-effect of sending me to sleep within the hour. Hence, I can't take it at dinner (6pm) or else I'll be asleep by 7! This is a new drug on the market but as a mood stabiliser for BP, and replacement for Lithium, I think it looks promising.

CONS: Triggered crippling anxiety and intense suicidal feelings &thoughts

I ended up in the hospital on a 5150. This drug should be taken off the market.

PROS: helped with paranoia and anxiety
CONS: caused severe episodes

This activated severe mood swings. I went manic and then into suicidal depression. I've never experienced mania before taking this.

PROS: controls my depression
CONS: no obvious side effects

I love this medicine! It has truly helped me with my bipolar depression. I have been on it twice so I know it works for me. The first time I had to go off of it because I could not afford it. The second time I got assistance and I am still taking it now. I love it. I have no obvious side effects. Great drug. A word of advice: Because theres no generic it is expensive but try to get assistance through the manufacturer before giving up on it!
