I asked my T how he handled clients in the past who had developed romantic feelings toward him. All he did was shrug and said "feelings change". I hope he didn't think I wanted specific details about his past clients, I just wanted to know if he dealt with it before. He must have, he's been doing this for quite awhile, but no matter how I word it, he just dances around the question.

Have any of your ever asked their T the same question? Did you actually get a direct response?

Why are you asking your T this question? Are there other questions that you've asked that have been answered by him in a direct way, but not this one? If so, it might be a sign that he's not comfortable dealing with something like this. Or maybe he thinks you have romantic feelings for him and are dancing around it.

Oh, he's aware of the transference. And I was only asking how he had handled it in the past because I doubt I'm the only client who went through this. He's never really been direct, so the dancing around fits. I think he's uncomfortable discussing other clients, which is understandable. So it was probably just a stupid question overall.

THERAPISTS are supposed to be well-trained to hear and deal with ALL of your feelings. Such a shame that some are not,and do further damage to the client. ALL of our feelings are valid and should be respected. Feelings aren't embarrassing or wrong, they simply...are.
Thanks for this!
