Question Aug 23, 2009 at 08:54 AM
  #1
I recently had an experience here at PC that really was distressing and I am thinking that perhaps the other person did not know it was potentially going to upset someone. I don't feel comfortable approaching them and no one has known quite what to do.

Can admin offer some tips to the community on acceptable private contact?

i don't feel safe in some forums anymore...

The internet is "out there" and so, people should be careful... but perhaps some tips about how to make or not make private contact would help.

what happened was not technically against any current guidelines that i can see... but it was so not cool. It was creepy and weird and i'd rather it didn't happen to anyone else.

thanks

What do you mean by private contact? Do you mean via PM? If so, the same rules that are used on the forums should be used when PMing also. If you recieve a yucky PM please let admin or a moderator know.

i did, and the moderators i talked to thought it was creepy too.. but no rules were broken really. It was like someone giggling at a funeral or farting in church. Can't really get arrested for either, but it's not really very nice.

i just think that new people could use info.. maybe they don't understand how disrespectful and creepy something will come across to another. should i give an example? i didn't know if i should openly discuss what was said or how..

Hey DocJohn is the man to talk to about changing/adding to the Community Guidelines, so perhaps it's best to talk to him directly.
