Karma, what is it really. Tell me what does this mean to you? Lets explore together. There are many people who belive that Karma is basicly...
What one does in life, what comes around goes around.
In other words if someone hurts me karma will get the other person back for you.
Before I say what I think I'd like to hear from others who belive in karma and how it might help us all.
Sincerely,
Happiedasiy

I believe in Karma, but this doesn't mean if something tragic happens randomly....the person must be deserving of it. For me I try to be a good person and treat others with respect. If someone does something bad to me, I can release it to Karma rather than seething about it. I suppose it could be mean spirited, like wishing for the bad Karma to come to that person.

I don't know if I believe that "if someone hurts me, karma will get the other person back." Karma is not punishment. As I understand it, a kind and generous universe senses the angry person and decides, "Ah, here is a person who enjoys being angry. I will send many things to anger her." The same kind and generous universe senses someone who is kind and peaceful and says, "I will send kindness and peace, since this is what makes this person happy." I'm not saying I totally believe that, but that's how I understand it.

Karma to me means that if I do good and loving actions, if I send peaceful thoughts out into the world, if I treat other people gently and with respect, then, shades of the 70's!!!....peace and love and loving actions will work their way back to me through other people. That's my definition of karma - pretty simple, probably wrong, but that's the way I've always believed it to work.

I am not sure of the answer to this - I have a sense of what I think it is, but it is almost beyond words. Like tuning into positive or negative feelings - if we tune into the negative ones, then that is what we will focus on both within ourself and outside of ourself and the same with positive feelings.

there are several ways i have been taught to look at Karma. First: one must understand the teaching that it is not limited to this life, but follows the essential energies from one incarnation to another. so what might seem random is actually an accumulation from past actions. Second: in the west we express Karma as Cause and Effect. it is not the mere revisitation of one's actions (thoughts, intentions and emotions) at a later date; it is transmuted into the fruit of the seed, thus appearing in the context of the surrounding environment. a good deed done earlier may bear greater fruit than would be expected, due to existing "influences" (timing, circumstance, involvement of others, etc). Third: the most famous teacher regarding Karma strictly instructed his pupils not to contemplate it, as their minds could not comprehend its complexities, and it would lead to a form of insanity. that being said.
Contemplate Generosity~! best wishes, ,Gus

In general its a budhist belief system / budhist religion that if you do good things you get good results back if you do bad things you get bad results back.

but some people around where I live and work have been known to twist this religious belief to mean anything they want it to be...

meaning when they feel wrong has been done to them they shout "karma will get you" as if its a way of cursing someone for what was perceived to be wrong doing.

and when people do good things instead of congratulating and saying wow Karma was amazing for you today, find fault in the good deed and twist the good deed into some wrong doing so that they can curse them with saying such as "watch out Karma will get them"

My belief is I dont go around using, other religious belief systems for zapping and cursing those I believe are doing wrong. its not up to me to say who is doing right or wrong. their own cultures and religious beliefs do that for them.

example some religions believe in going to confession and doing penance absolves the wrong do.

cursing their wrong doing by wishing bad karma may make the ione shouting karma will get you feel better but for the one that has the religious belief system of confessional and penance absolves all sins isnt going to do anything (cause the wrong doer any pain , anguish what ever) to them because their belief system isnt of the budhist religion. or vice versa having a catholic curse a budhist with if you dont confess your sins you will burn in h--- isnt going to do anything to the budhist because their belief system is of Karma not confessional and absolution.

I accept people and their belief systems as they are and and leave it up to their own religious beliefs to dictate what ever it says for their life.

Thanks for everbodys' resonse!
I am aware of what Guss is saying and agree Karma is not to be contemplated too
deeply. However I do think we can look at Lynns' point of releasing things to Karma so as to help ourselves and others.
I use Karma to keep my thoughts/feelings in check and also use it let go of my past emotions that might cause me to stay in a unbalanced mind.
Karma is the ultimate balance of this universe, not to be viewed or used for personal intentions.

I see karma as more an energy thing. I don't believe that if something terrible happens to someone that they must've done something in a previous life or whatever. I don't think that's right at all. We're not in control of everything in our lives. What I do think is that if we give out mostly good, positive thoughts then we increase the chances of positive stuff in our lives. On an energy level we attract them. The opposite occurs if we're constantly expecting the worst. This isn't always the case because life has its own ideas sometimes and we're not in control, but I've experienced energy attraction in my own life as well as witnessing it in others, so it does happen.
