I have suffered from this on and off for the last year or so. If this has happened to you, you know how horrifying it can be.
So do you think that its just a medical thing like a hallucination or a supernatural attack? This is a great documentary about it and scary as hell. Trust me you do not want this experience. I am thoroughly convinced this must be supernatural.

I have experienced sleep paralysis, and it is disturbing, yes. But I really think that it happens when your mind is in a stage of sleep where we are shut down from movement, and may be in "deep sleep". I think it is possible to maybe hear a sound and be consciously awake but stuck in the deep paralysis of deep sleep physically.
So I think it can be medically explained. As we continue learning about the brain we will have a better understanding of this. We are gaining a lot of knowledge of the brain with fairly new technology. We have a lot to learn yet about the human brain. It is an amazing thing. the first time I asked about it my treatment providers explained to me that when the brain gets ready for the body to sleep it triggers a chemical release reaction in the body. this release of chemicals makes it so that a person isnt physically acting out what ever they are dreaming, its the body's natural safety lock to prevent someone from say walking out their door and jumping off the near by bridge and accidentally killing their self when they are dreaming about jumping off the bridge, or having a dream of killing, having sex or what ever with their friends, the person wont wake up to find they actually did harm or have sex or what ever with the person they were dreaming about. usually people are not aware when their body chemicals release and effectively render them unable to move but sometimes with some people their body goes to sleep while their minds are still conscious, or they wake up before these chemicals wear off. either way its happened to me and can be quite scarey. what helps me is reminding myself that this is just a normal body function, lay there and breath and take time to slowly wake up. sometimes I wake up my wife and tell her its show time lol she laughs and turns on the tv, places my head phones on me and she goes back to sleep or gets up to start her day depending upon when it happens. and I wait out my body by watching a movie or the morning news. |

well the oddest thing happened , and im gonna try to explain it (hope you understand )
I watched that documentary from youtube that you posted and it made me curious .. I googled about lucid dreaming on google , I also asked around on chat but I did not find anything good on google nor on chat ..so at 3am I played that youtube video you posted and I went to sleep . Nothing weird so far right ? Now its 5:06 i woke up at 5am sharp and I would lie to say im not a little curious /scared to what I just went through ;D I dont know when I started dreaming so .. While I had my eyes closed and listening to the youtube video , I noticed that It ended a lil bit sooner * the time went to fast * but I thought that its just my imagination so I left the computer go into hibernation and continued to sleep ..so here it starts .. around 20 min ago I felt awake .. the monitor was on ..and I heard steps getting in my room , the ""thing "" proceeded and shut down my monitor and I thought that its my mom , sometimes she comes to shut down the computer and wake me up and while the thing was doing this I thought if I should keep my eyes closed or open them .. so I opened them and I saw in the monitor my reflection and then I thought if the thing (which at that point I still though its my monitor saw that I am faking my sleep ) . So I was sleeping on my face ...and then I felt someone leaning on me , same position that I was trying to sleep on . At that moment I could not move anymore , and I instantly thought about the video ..I noticed I could not open my mouth also ..so while being in that situation I thought what i should do .. pray to good ? but im not a religious person and that would be an act of a coward , I thought I should scream for my parents but I could not open my mouth like i said ... So what was left for me to do was start moving ..I used as much forced as I could and little by little I started moving my foots and hands , so after a while I managed to free my self (all the time she was on me I felt awake ) so after this happened im posting this right away ... with a crazy backpain like I carried bigfoot on my back . Your probably wonder how I know she was a girl ? Well for some reason , I felt the hands very good , very tiny but long hands , with a powerful grip ..they crawled all the way from my back to my shoulders and grabbed my hands ... and the breathing ..she / he / it was not talking but i could clearly hear the breath . So my thoughts to what happened ? Demons ? I dont think so . A dream ? Yes ,I think it was a kind of lucid dreaming (in my search for one , I actually achieved it ) What I know right now for sure its that my back is killing me and That i am a little afraid to go back to sleep . Most probably was a deep dream , a sum of my resident evil movies that I watched before finding your thread , and the last thing I think i heard before the video ended abruptly was about a woman talking about a woman on her ) , thebackpain is not weird , i probably in my sleep stretched or something is happening often ..whats weird is how real it felt ![]() |

This sounds so familiar to me. It does not happen so often anymore but there was a time where it was happening to me nightly. I would have "demons" in my dreams and I would simply be unable to move to help myself. All I can say is that I identify because it feels so real. I remember my relief when I was finally able to wake up properly and of course I did not go back to sleep. Some meds over the years has made it worse so that could be an underlying cause if you are on meds. Demons frequent my dreams too often and I have never understood why.

If it continues to happen, go to a sleep lab and get tested. There is a condition that causes temporary paralysis while awake.
