DBT is a type of therapy, short for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. It's a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) approach with specific targets and skills taught, based on mindfulness (draws from zen and eastern meditation practices), as well as skills for interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
Anyone is welcome to check out the DBT social group if you are interested. __________________ “We should always pray for help, but we should always listen for inspiration and impression to proceed in ways different from those we may have thought of.” – John H. Groberg |

Seems nice to. When I'm depressed even my soul seems to be sick.

I found this for prayer "An act of communion with God, a god, or another object of worship, such as in devotion, confession, praise, or thanksgiving: One evening a week, the family would join together in prayer." If a prayer is connected to religion and considered against "the spiritual" purpose of this Forum, i think that all I have studied in my life counts for nothing, and this Forum is too elevated for me! I am sorry to have to banish myself from a group/society that has this as a rule, because I believe in respecting the rules in which a society was formed in. If not, who connects religion with that and do it to banish others should be excluded! Fair enough? Last edited by Gabi925; Nov 30, 2009 at 06:44 PM.. Reason: The remark that made me reply in that way disappered after I editted the above. I'll send an email regarding that. No space. |

Gab (and anyone else interested),
I didn't see your original post, but want you to know that there is a private forum for those who would like to have freedom to post and discuss meaningfully about belief and faith, communion with God, etc. All who respect that and respect each other's beliefs are welcome there. http://forums.psychcentral.com/group.php?groupid=2 Or PM me and I'll send you an invitation. __________________ “We should always pray for help, but we should always listen for inspiration and impression to proceed in ways different from those we may have thought of.” – John H. I fought spiritual abuse for 18 months. I was married for 31 years to an abuser and then got a divorce. I was voted out of membership (because I let the ex live in my house afterwards). My name was put up on a big screen, followed by the words: "Conduct Unbecoming a Child of God." Called to a meeting of deacons (not allowed to have a woman with me), and asked:"Are you still having sex with your ex?" The ex was never called to task. Something positive came from the debacle.....my poetry website which has over 17,000 hits.

It's tragic what you went through and how you were treated.

Thank you DocJohn,
I ditto Radio_flyer's answer. Hi everyone. I am new and still learning the icon faces and all the other stuff the ribbon that is above the Message writing page. The typing brings up words describing the icons and that computing thing is hard to fathom. Computer age is me learning a new language of the Geek and nerd worlds and so I have to become a part of them. Thanks for being a part of my learning. |

I'm so happy we have a forum for this topic of "Spirituality", but I find I'll have a problem because...to me..."Spirituality" and "Religion" can't be separated. I look at one just as I look at the other, how do I talk about "Spirituality" without speaking of religion because that's what it is to me. I have no idea what to say, without breaking some kind of rule for this group, so I am left here very confused. SheSabre, me too! We have tried to talk about what is spiritual and how religion fits with that many times here. My most recent thinking is that spiritual is the individual, personal connection or relationship that each of us has with God, the universe, our belief system or religion. There are those who are unwilling to accept that many of us have an individual spiritual connection with organized religion and belief systems that are shared and have leaders, etc. So the rest of us are relegated to the basement and to social groups, where we are hard to find and mostly unseen unless you come looking for us. Check out the social groups. We have our own forums, some that you can't see until after you join the associated social group. All are welcome who are willing to accept others and respect differences. There are several to choose from - some links appear on my profile. We talk freely about religion there.

Thank you so very much, Rapunzel, you didn't have to tell me about other places but you did and I appreciate it. Hope to talk with you soon.... I have a spiritual life which I try to practice every day. It would be great to come here when life gets extremely difficult to get an I feel my spirituality is weak. To maybe get some guidance. I am so glad this is here.

Hello Not sure what you do in this forum but I am lucky to have a psychologist who is spiritual in his own way and it helps.

[quote=cin1;1994530]most thoughts and experiences are in the mind i think. who is to say what is real and what is not? Because someone else disagrees does not mean you are rejected, they just reject what has been shared. no one can take away the Spiritual. i have my thoughts, my inner life does not ask for approval from any one. i don't approve of others at times.i am concerned with making life through one day at a time. should others ask me about "whatever" i am free to share. if not, then i stay to myself. cin1
