As a reminder, this is specifically not a place to debate issues of religion. So to be crystal clear -- No talk of religions is allowed here, sorry. Welcome and enjoy! Spirituality is: 1: of, relating to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit : incorporeal 2: of or relating to sacred matters Religion, on the other hand, is a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. I am glad to see this area in the forum. Is this a new addition. I have been thinking a lot lately about spiritual matters, and the large vaccuum in my life in that area.

I would like to talk about a specific experience I had here...In this last relationship attempt I had with the Psych. Ph.D., I discussed my spirituality with him, to which he repied, "it was all in my mind."
Since then, in the emotional recovery, I've had a very hard time returning to my spiritual base, feeling somehow that revealing that to him contributed to the rejection. Trying to manage on my own, without spiritual support or counseling. I'm okay, but now looking back to my spiritual roots. Feeling the need for this, but also wavering. Patty |

Gee, Seeker, that's hard! I think though that if we work out for ourselves what we believe, we're pretty hard to shake. My religious beliefs were shattered by reading a book. But, over the years afterwards I've built a spirituality of my own I'm very happy with and I don't think anyone could upset my beliefs now.

we have a IRL support that hubby and I facilitate and we set aside a half hour for spirituality support, so this is really neat to have here

 !!!! I'm a firm believer that one can't reach full recovery without some kind of spirituality and support in that area!Doc, I'm amazed!! Thank you so very, very much!

The evidence of faith in our lives permeates into even the mental unwellness we experience. Unfortunately, many of us "lose" faith depending upon the severity of our illnesses. This doesn't mean we don't need to regain it; We do. But it appears to need to be reframed as the old definition and context no longer work for us. Thank you, Doc, for considering this as an essential part of the healing process for many of us here.
This is fabulous! Now I do not have to feel like I need to be a closet Christian! Yay! It is such a BIG part of my healing process. Actually, my faith is the only part of my recovery process that works consistently - when I let it, of course! God Bless! Altered State

To foster a place where Christians Catholics Protestants Buddists Hindus Muslims Spiritualists Witches Jews Mystics etc... Can co-exist. :-) Fairly tricky. Up to you guys, I guess. P.S. I won't inundate the boards with the church of the flying spaghetti monster: http://www.venganza.org/ Or the church of virus: http://www.churchofvirus.org/ I promise... (Though of course the million dollar question is WWFSMD?? AKA: what would flying spaghetti monster do?) ? |
