Remember these words

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (NRSV)

What helps me is living a life of physical and mental discipline.

Physical means making intelligent choices in food and exercise.

Mental means dwelling upon the beautiful and true things and letting love be my guide.

Rather than play victim (or take pleasure or comfort in such a role) I strive to actively face life with integrity and courage.

This means confronting evil as a way of life, just as Ghandi, Buddha, Thoreau, Jesus and Mohammed did.....It means continuing to learn, grow and become everything I can be.

All these great men did exactly that......they stayed close to nature, they walked a lot, they ate healthy foods and they listened for God as wind in the trees, the splash of a raindrop and every birdsong--they smelled God in the flower, the fallen leaves and the moist earth after a rain.

God was with them and in them and was them.

That's what comforts me.
