I'm still reading "Heartwounds" by Tian Dayton. So much of the material in this book explains so much about why I struggle the way I do. I've mentioned, and others have too, having trouble feeling acceptable to God or close to God, or just plain feeling the spirit, while affected by depression and mental illness. Here's a paragraph in this book that helped me to make more sense of it.

Quote: Loss of trust and faith reaches toward the spiritual solution of anchoring to a faith in God or a Higher Power. Trauma ... produces a loss of trust and faith. The relationships that we depended upon were profoundly disappointing, which made us lose faith not only in relationships to others but also in relationships with self and life. It is, in a sense, a spiritual crisis that begs for a spiritual solution. The confusion, disappointment, and disillusionment attendant upon bottoming out leave a survivor feeling an existential despair. But out of this despair, hope can come. It is deeply strengthening to go through pain and struggle and to survive, to know that you can surmount life's difficulties. It is at these moments of despair that we meet God and self, that we go within and look for strength, that we learn to trust ourselves, and through this relationship with self that we recognize God's presence within us.

__________________ “We should always pray for help, but we should always listen for inspiration and impression to proceed in ways different from those we may have thought of.” – John H. (((Rap))) Yes. I have just been somewhat confirmed in my earlier thesis... that faith can be found in the brain, and trauma interrupts that flow. Neurotheologians have MRI'd the brain of ppl while they pray and found 3 significant parts consistently "light up"...
wouldn't it be wonderful if they can not only find where faith is "created stored accessed" whatever...and correct it so no matter what, we have confidence of good outcomes??? __________________ |

I struggle with trust and sometimes faith. As far as trusting in people, I have a long way to go.. I am growing... I am learning to put my trust and faith in God. I just don't need anymore pain and struggles to say I have survived. I am a work in progress ....I know God is there always. I just need to learn to trust in Him more. |

A few months ago I was very angry with God and was feeling abandoned by him. I connected to the quote from your book because I have been thinking about the concept of each of us havng God within us. So, if God is within us and we get angry at God, are we angry at ourselves? Doe faith in God equal faith in ourselves and a willingness or desire to move forward? Food for thought.

It is so hard sometimes to keep the perspective, but I do believe that all the garbage that we have "survived" will ultimately make us who we are meant to be. We couldn't develop fully without our trials. I believe that God knows what He is doing. It's just so hard to remember that sometimes.
