Thanks for posting this, Sky. One of my favorite hymns and the story behind it has always touched me deeply.
Right now, I'm listening to "Selah's Greatest Hymns" and this hymn is on the CD, along with more favorites, such as "There is a Fountain". The author, William Cowper, had a nervous breakdown, tried to commit suicide several times, and was plagued throughout his life that God would someday turn his back on him. However, on his deathbed, Cowper looked up with amazement on his face, and said "I am not shut out of Heaven after all".. Praise God for the wonderful old hymns! Olivia |
