I am headed out camping this weekend and am very much looking forward to spending time outdoors in the wilderness.
I actually find the wilderness my safe place where I have no vulnerabilities. Yes, I know, this might sound rather surprising considering bear country, other wild animals, and being alone. But safe I do in fact feel. Also, being in the outdoors surrounded by trees, topography, and water is my sense of being in tune and in contact with whatever the Creator may be. In a way, it is church for me. It is some time since I communed with nature. I feel a strong calling. Two sleeps until I can do so again! Yay. So I wonder what others consider their safe place to be spiritually connected. |

I have no one place. My safe/spiritual place is living in the moment. Then I see the beautiful mountains that I live in and other folks pay big money to visit.
I see the trees swaying in the breeze. I feel and smell the rain. I haven't always lived in the moment--and during those times I was trying to figure out the past (sad) or trying to figure out the future (fear/anxiety). Being here. Now. Grounds me and opens me to the world. ![]() |

I feel extremely calm and "at home" in the wilderness as well. I feel my heart belongs there and I could never live in a large town. So I can fully relate to you, justafriend. And I envy you your trip

Spirit Mountain NV is my place. In a few days I may be camping out in the Kibab National Forest just outside of the Grand Canyon National Park.

Oddly enough, it's my car. That's the only time I am alone.

Would it still be safe if shared what/where?

I was going to say this too, but Candy beat me to it! Driving and parking in a nice solitary, shaded area where I can just listen to something that I like of meditate. There was one period of depression where I actively sought out my car when I started to feel ultra-negative or anxious.

My mind feels calm and at ease when I go to a mosque in Bolingbrook, Illinois. My favorite time is about 30 minutes before a group prayer begins. It's very quiet. It's clean with a neutral smell.
As for finding peace in nature, I like small creeks and the sound of flowing water. |
