Is next Friday I'm going to a steakhouse and know already I'll be ordering meat. I missed church ash Wednesday. I'm just a terrible Catholic but it's my birthday!

One time I tried to make it to ash Wednesday and drove off the road, it was snowy. Today I've worked all day don't have a church and just don't know where to go.

I just feel lent cursed. I tried reaching out to a church months ago they didn't respond. I don't even know what to give up for lent last year I did coffee but now I'm more addicted to coffee than I was, it used to be an occasional thing. And I made it through lent.

I feel like I need to do something to show my thanks and as a way to repent. but I don't know what to do. I want to celebrate my birthday.

edited: Watched church on youtube. Feeling more optimistic.

Switched dinner to Saturday, brother is catholic too so he suggested it. I readily agreed. decided to give up ice cream. I'm already craving it. But it's doable.

Sweet! Oops, I mean...cool! Nope, wrong again. Pardon the ice cream puns. You've got this! I agree, it seems doable.

Happy birthday Aviza!

I am a cultural Catholic - I grew up in the church but don't regularly attend due to some ideological differences I have with many Catholics I know. I recently found a book at a used book store that is so healing for my experience of Lent - it is called "Lenten Hobo Honeymoon" by Fr. Edward Hays. I would recommend it if you can find a copy The book has daily reflections on different themes during Lent.

I was born on Ash Wednesday and always used to think it was kind of unlucky - an indication of my depressed personality. But actually now I see it as a really beautiful opportunity to become more mindful of my spiritual journey. I think you're loved regardless of whether you eat meat on a Friday even though I also know how great it feels to successfully follow through with a commitment. I hope you are enjoying your journey this Lent!
