I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. Does anyone else with this disorder have memory problems?

You're not alone - I have memory problems too, especially short term memory. Not sure if it's the disorder itself, or the meds causing it. Perhaps some of both.

For me the med's . I have been on so many different SSRI's, antidepressants, anti psychotic's.I'm very sensitive to them. My Doc get's impatient with me because he prescribes them but I'm afraid to take them because of side effects, like memory loss. It seems like a no win situation.

I'm not sure myself, since I've been on medication I've been having some memory impairments myself. I've got my phone as a daily planner now myself and a timer on my phone of when to take my meds so I personally don't forget to take them.

I think it's my bipolar and anxiety disorder that messes with my memory. I'm not on meds btw. My long term memory is completely shot out. I'll do something with friends and someone will mention something we did the next day or a couple days later and I will be completely clueless and it sometimes takes a lot of details to jog my memory but most of the time I never remember things at all.. It kind of creeps me out.
Thanks for this!

Oh, yes. Lots of problems with ST memory. My wife tells me to watch some food on the stove and a minute later I have no memory of this request. Needless to say I burn lots of pots and pans. I take out the trash and when I return I've forgotten to replace the liner. Somethings you want to forget but I have no choice in the matter.

I have horrible memory. I always write things down and use the planner on my phone. The worse my condition became the worse the information/memory loss was and has been. I sometimes stop in the middle of what I am doing totally lost at where I am and why. Usually have to wait a minute for it to come back to me. For me it is the nature of the disease, been that way since before I was ever on meds. Best thing is pen and paper, timers, and make use of your smart phones planner if you have one.

Do any of you have memory blanks in which you can't remember where and how you got somewhere?

I have no long term memories. I have better recall of my deluded periods than of reality. It breaks my heart. It leaves me feeling lost. My siblings try to help but there's nothing there. I have a diploma but no memories of graduation. It scares me.

Pond.

I am also losing my memory.. Especially short term, I mean, I was at pdocs today, and I couldn't remember what day it was.. And I had an appointment that day.. lol.. Yeah, sometimes I will be doing something, and it will just slip my mind what I was doing and why.. I have anxiety to though, and ocd.. And that makes me crazy.. I have to check and double check things.. My long term memory is going to.. The only thing's I remember that happened a long time ago, are things that were really traumatic.. I have a few good memories from the past though..

I have noticed memory loss - everything in the past is pretty much either a blur or a blank. I am really worried about what this means long-term. I volunteer at a café and you have to enter a code on a keypad to get into the staff room - I've been there three years and I've kept having times where I can't remember the numbers.

Sorry if this is out of place, I saw the topic from the main forum. I don't have schizoaffective disorder, but I do have psychosis and it caused a lot of memory loss for me. My really bad years before I was on medication are mostly cloudy or just entirely gone. Now it's a bit better, but my memory is still awful and it makes it really hard to keep a schedule, study for school, keep appointments, etc. I'm not sure how much is the disorder and how much is the drugs, although it was worse without medication.

Just wanted to add that I'm convinced that its the meds that have caused the memory loss. I believe that they are very harmful, but every time I've tried to come off them I've had rebound psychosis and can't seem to function.

Hello! This is my first post. I believe my memory loss is induced by meds. Currently, I'm on:
Lamictal 500 mg
Risperidone 4 mg
Provigil 200 mg

The provigil is to counteract my sleepiness for the other drugs. I am on som fairly high doses and I've read that lamictal causes memory loss. My doctor wrote me up for som prescription supplements but my insurance doesn't cover it. I don't know if I should pay tons of money not knowing if its going to work or just live with the memory loss.
I am really scared that this is going to be permanent and I am thinking of going off of my medication because of it.
