So I was seriously just discharged from inpatient treatment like twenty minutes ago or so after being inpatient for two and a half weeks.
My diagnosis changed from borderline personality disorder and psychosis to schizoaffective disorder. My official diagnosis says mood disorder with psychotic features and I was wondering why this doesn't mean psychotic depression? What makes it schizoaffective? |

Hi Kori,
Glad you're out of the hospital. I can't be sure, but the differing diagnoses you've received may be, at least in part, due to recent changes made in the new edition of the DSM. From what I can tell, though, the psychotic symptoms associated with schizoaffective d/o aren't mood congruent. The psychoses associated with psychotic depression are related to the depression. Also, with psychotic depression, the psychoses & the depression must occur together. Not so with the schizoaffective d/o. Hope this didn't confuse the issue more. My thought processes have been decidedly less than optimum lately. Take care. |
