Were you diagnosed as bipolar or depressed. I was diagnosed as bipolar 1. I'm still not sure if they change my diagnosis for sure. Its just that it said "Schizoaffective disorder bipolar type. Anxiety" on my discharge papers the other day. How does this differ from bipolar? And where she came up with Anxiety I don't know.

I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 first. But I wasn't honest with the pdoc. I finally told him about the voices and hallucinations. I was worried he'd think I was crazy. Then I realized it's his job. This is what he does-deals with MI.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 w/psychotic features until my moods stabilized but the hallucinations and paranoia didn't go away.

The main difference between BP1 with psychosis and schizoaffective with bipolar are the psychosis can occur any time and is not dependent on your mood disorder. So you could be perfectly baseline and still get hallucinations or become delusional at any time. Where as with bipolar it is dependent on your mood disorder. Schizoaffective is independent of your mood disorder. I'm BP1 because i have had a full blown manic episode many years ago and since then only get hypomanic. However we are not sure if my psychosis is dependent or independent of my mood disorder. The main reason I stay BP1 is because of the psychosis I guess. Even though I only go hypomanic. My delusions and hallucinations complicates things. My doc and T both have told me it matters very little. Treatment and meds are the same.
