When I was bipolar I seemed to be medicated to the gills. I work in tech, which is really cerebral. I could still get my work done, but just.

I currently have some working diagnoses, and haven't received my final diagnosis. Schitzoaffective seems to be where everything is pointing.

Do you find that schitzoaffective people are still able to perform thought-intensive tasks that they were able to work on before they got treated? Am I going to be making some sacrifices to get rid of my paranoia/ideas of reference/etc. symptoms? How bad?

I Web_Intel. Welcome to Psych Central (PC). I am sorry you are suffering from Schitzoaffective and Cognitive Function. If you want to research your question further go to www.psychcentral.com and use search box in upper right corner.

If you feel you need to expand your support system joining Psych Central is a good choice. It has helped me meet new people, get new ideas for coping, and become a better listener.

Many people who are actively involved in Psych Central find it helps take them out of their own problems to develop empathy for others. And their problems are more manageable the more they help others.

Anxiety chat is from 8PM EST on Wednesday and Depression chat is 9PM EST on Thursday. Many people go there with other diagnoses so if you want to meet some people and find support there you are certainly welcome. And their are other chats too. When you have 5 posts you can check the schedule on the Calendar in the blue bar above. Bipolar Chat has been happening on Saturday night at 9PM EST.

Glad you are joining us here. Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

Please feel free to private message me or any of the Community Liaisons by left clicking on the name in blue to the left of their post) for questions or just to share.

this is a weird question.

"Do you find that schitzoaffective people are still able to perform thought-intensive tasks that they were able to work on before they got treated?"

i think so.......
like people with schizoaffective are suddenly brain-dead when they take medications? it seems like you are reading worst-case scenarios online or you yourself are stigmatizing against people with schizoaffective/people who take medications. web_intel, you have to remember everyone with this disorder is different; no symptoms are the same, no treatment is the same. what may make someone else seem "slow" may not have the same effect on you. i wouldn't worry too much about not being able to perform tasks at work. i would focus more on getting yourself well to be able to continue work.

also; if a medication isn't working for you, you are allowed to tell your psychiatrist you want to go off of it or switch to something else. it's all about trial and error with medications. no need to be on a whole string of medications for no reason...

have a nice day and take care.
Thanks for this!
