Hi All--
I won't get into with my husband's complete history, but I was wondering if any of you had experience with an ACT team as a treatment option. My husband has schizoaffective. He's 31 years old. Though he is willing to take meds and see a therapist regularly, he goes off of his meds when he's feeling better and this has become a more frequent problem. He has been hospitalized 5 times since last April. He is there right now. He was seeing a therapist every 2 weeks and the pdoc once a month, but the team at the hospital believe he needs to up his level of care in order to remain out of the hospital for a longer period of time. I do not disagree. There are many challenges in his situation because he goes to a practice and hospital in a county where we do not reside. ACT teams tend to be county funded so he'd likely have to change doctors. The social worker at the hospital today said they are looking into partial hospitalization and what his insurance will cover and then an IOP program. She said that the ACT team is a step down from the hospital so they usually like to try other options before trying that, especially because it is county funded and may be hard to get the funding. Man--having good insurance isn't even that helpful for mental illness. His disability case is pending (hearing probably won't be until late 2018). The attorney wants to try to request an On the Record review since he has the medical evidence but still, we can't hold our breath on that. Anyone have experience with any of these types of programs/care? |
