Lately, I have been having a lot of trouble with the negative symptoms: lack of speech, lack of energy, lack of emotions, lack of motivation, etc. I almost get catatonic because of it. Someone said I sounded depressed. I don't know. I do have the depressed type of Schizoaffective. I don't feel depressed. I feel apathetic. But I also feel like I am coming apart at the seams a little bit. I'm not sure what else I can do. I feel like I am doing everything I know to do. But still unraveling. Sigh. So hard to keep up this fight.

I am so very sorry that is happening to you. How heartbreaking! Wish I knew what to say that would help!

Hi, so I used to experience the negative symptoms a fair amount (and by a fair amount I mean a lot). I had alogia (lack of speech), avolition (lack of motivation), anhedonia (lack of pleasure), etc. Those are all negative symptoms (there are more of them, but those are some of them).

Anyway, what helped me was largely just increasing the dosages of the antidepressants I was on (and still take). I.e., mirtazapine and venlafaxine. I don't know if you're in the position to increase antidepressants, but it might be worth having a talk with your doctor about it.

I still experience avolition (lack of motivation) a fair amount, but it has gotten better over the years.

Anyway, I feel like my catatonic depression finally lifted a long time ago, which is lucky for me, because I hated that feeling so much. Many years ago I couldn't utter a single phrase to people. Anyway, it was highly painful.

So I understand what you're going through. Just know that there is a way to get out of that state, feeling the way you do.

Thanks Breaking Dawn. I am still having negative symptoms but I guess I am sort of coping. IDK. Maybe not great though. How are you? Kit
