I feel so strongly that my teddy bears are alive. I hear them cry in my head and they talk to me when I talk to them. It’s scary but comforting. I feel out of my mind. Any ideas of what to do?

Well... I suspect lots of us, here on PC, talk to our teddy bears. And probably lots of us hear them cry & talk to us in our heads. So I don't know that there's anything particularly unusual about that. Talking to your teddys (or other stuffies) can even be therapeutic. (Of course, you didn't mention what you're hearing your teddy bears say to you. That would certainly make a difference.)

You wrote that it's scary but comforting. Perhaps the question may be... is it more scary or more comforting. If it's mostly comforting then maybe there isn't anything to be done? However if it's more scary then perhaps the thing to do is to talk this over with whatever mental health professionals you have in your life... psychologist, mental health therapist, etc. Perhaps other PC members will have other thoughts on the subject.

What do the teddy bears say to you? Is it helpful things or harmful things?

They respond to whatever I say like “how are you?” And they’ll say “okay.” But sometimes they say I should kill myself like a few minutes ago.

I was having a conversation with a teddy bear today, and Papa bear (my husband) was there too (we were acting out a scenario. He enjoyed my acting skills. I was too ''quiet'' when little to say much of anything..)

If your teddy bears are telling you you should kill yourself then, at least to my mind, this is something you really need to be discussing with a mental health professional. I hope you do...

Hewo,

I love this thread.

I would have to agree with our fellow users, that a lot of us have stuffed animals - and that many of us speak to them too. Whether they speak back is a matter of our own connection with our stuffies, and I don't think it should be pathologized one way or another. As long as they are not threatening, demeaning, intimidating, invalidating, or coercing - I think it is safe to say that they have our best interest at heart.

I have 3 teddy bears that have saved me through the last 6 years of hell on earth. Without them, I wouldn't have made it this far. Happy to hear others have found the comfort from age regression coping mechanisms, and that there is no shame in sharing it.

Hug those teddies tightly! They are good friends.

Thanks,
HD7970ghz

I think if your teddy bears are telling you to kill yourself there might be something else going on. I hope you discuss this with a mental health professional too.
