Hi
I am diagnosed bipolar
But I'm wondering if I'm maybe schizoaffective
I have all of the symptoms I can identify
Except I don't have audio or visual hallucinations
What got me thinking about this is that I have a pronounced experience of being many rather than one
I have a pronounced need to isolate
And when I'm alone I talk to myself relentlessly
It dawned on me that I feel crowded by other people because I experience myself as already being a crowd
When I am alone the experience is that I am spending time w others that are within me
This is what got me thinking about schizoaffective
But again, no hallucinations
Paranoia, delusion, dissociation, mania, depression, the rest...
All there
Does anyone have any insight?
Very appreciative if anyone can share ...

I find getting an SzA dx is really hard. Have you ever been stable and had psychosis? I was 15 years into treatment before getting the dx. My meds stayed the same.

I don't have florid psychosis
Like, extreme delusions
I have paranoia, delusions of grandeur, prone to risky behavior, seeing meaning everywhere
Type stuff
But no thinking aliens or governments are coming for me
I never really know when I'm stable
Sometimes are just better than others

Like Miguel's mom, I find getting a SzA dx to be difficult as well. It took me 20 years to finally get that diagnosis (which I believe is the right one) and get on the correct medications.

We can't diagnose here but if you are curious you could seek out a therapist or a psychiatrist to get an accurate diagnosis.

Thnx for this feedback
I of course am not expecting diagnosis
But wondering if based on symptoms if it even seems like a reasonable idea
Especially as I dont experience hallucinations
If any further feedback
All ears

I think it's definitely a possibility. You don't have to have every symptom and the fact that your just degrees of okay means you should really bring it up to your Dr and therapist.

I was diagnosed bipolar now I'm schizoaffective. I hear voices and the like. I have powerful delusions mixed with paranoia and hallucinations that play on each other and create a storm that puts me in the hospital when I have an episode. On a bad day I hear voices that are unrelated to my delusions and I can come back to reality quickly. I have paranoia and sometimes I can recognize it as such. I have delusions or strange ideas about reality and I'm like, that's weird I don't think that's true. I often get these in a normal mood. When I'm stressed they overwhelm me and that becomes an episode. The key to observe is to track your moods and see if you experience psychosis in a normal mood or just when you have extreme depression and extreme mania. If you get it all the time, regardless of mood, then you may have schizoaffective disorder bipolar type.
