So I'm scizoaffective bipolar type. I've been medicated for about 5 years and had my first major episode about ten years ago.
I've been in the hospital many times. Especially over the last few years. My most major episode ever i had to be hospitalized for over a week because I had attacked my wife, my father, and tried to physically escape from a general hospital and they had to strap me down and inject me with loads of Ativan to get e to calm down. So why am I here? I see so many success stories here that it made me wonder... are there people like me? I've been on every antipsychotic under the sun and my current medication Latuda had the best results. While in multiple pospitals they tried all different kinds of techniques to calm me down or to treat me with medicine and other ways. They don't work. Not because I'm not trying or because I'm being resistant to therapy. It just plain doesn't work. The only way they've found out how to treat a psychotic episode was to either strap me down or load me up I'm Ativan. I'm megally worried about one day never getting to see my wife or my family again except through pane glass (being hospitalized forever) I keep telling myself God wouldn't let that happen but... this has happened so why wouldn't that? Am I alone? I've gotten used to having episodes all the time I just... want to know if I'm alone. Everyone here seems to be good or better at least... so I'm assuming I am alone. Sorry for intruding here but, hi anyway, |

@mmbattlestar welcome to MSF My Support Forums. I am sorry that you have symptoms that disrupt your life and seemingly do not respond to meds on a regular basis.
I am not an expert so do not take my response as advice, but a friend has med resistant challenges and has responded well to ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy). They have tried most of the meds, and they do help, but getting back to their normal takes ECT. It may be something that may be worth discussing with your doctors. For more on ECT here are some articles that may be of interest Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) - Mayo Clinic Psychiatric News You are not alone although it can feel that way when things are out of control. Hope you get the support you need to live the life you want to live. @CANDC __________________ Super Moderator Community Support Team "Things Take Time" |

Have you tried clozapine? This is the most potent medication for treatment resistant psychosis/ schizophrenia. I know some people who took it after trying everything else and are doing fine.

No I've not been tried on that. I will bring it up to my psychiatrist when I see him next month. Thank you. |

Hello guys. I'm feeling a little better than I was yesterday I had some friends talk to me from another message board. Hospitals have not tried that on me before. Theyve mostly tried dialectical behavioral therapy and grounding techniques. I dont know the entire story because I don't remember most of my Stay in that hospital but I didn't respond well to those so they gave me Ativan and sleeping pills (Seroquel I think?) at night and that helped calm me down and I slept for most of my Stay and got better. I've heard of it but never brought it up. I can bring that up to my psychiatrist too and see what he says. |

Im sorry if im all over the place. Im not high functioning. I require a cocktail of medications including 2 antipsychotic. I raised a son, kept my husband's relationship but outside that I have no successes. It's a successful day if I get up, make a shake, take my meds and make dinner. I avoid the hospital just nearly. I'm learning to identify it early and call my psychiatrist as soon as something is off. I'm trying to build a relationship with a therapist.
It seems like you may not have enough support out of the hospital. Are you able to see a therapist weekly? Are you seeing a marriage counselor? Is your wife seeing a therapist? So you'd have a check in with a professional 2x a week that can talk to your psychiatrist. __________________ Dx: Me- SzA Husband- Bipolar 1 Daughter- mood disorder+ Comfortable broken and happy "So I don't know why I'm tongue tied At the wrong time when I need this."- P!nk My blog |
