Please, don't make fun of me. I am very hurt & painfully wondering what exactly am I. These voices have too much power, which I can do nothing about. They are in the brain, I'm pretty sure, though I hear them outside much of the time. But I don't feel that I, myself, is actually in the brain. To me, it feels like I'm on the outside. Am I a spirit outside of this biological ecosystem? Do any of you relate, in any way, to this??

I hope the voices are kind to you. I can relate to the being detached at times....not feeling part of the body and brain.

Yes, when things are bad I start to think I'm fake.

Sounds a bit like dissociation, which pretty much everyone has from time to time just mildly. I think stress makes it worse. Do you have any grounding techniques you like to do? I recently learned one where you list five things you see, four things you hear, three things you touch, two things you smell, and one thing you taste. Kinda brings you back to the moment, stay mindful.

I have thought to myself before - maybe we are part of a bigger picture? Maybe there’s something about the human mind and how it connects with the world that science just can’t explain yet? When I feel this intense detachment from my being I remind myself that my brain is supposed to do this if I’m stressed out - it’s an extension of my being. Hope this at least helps you feel a bit more comfortable in your skin. I find something interactive helpful - like drawing, playing an instrument, video games. Anything to make the experience a bit more pleasant. |

You are very real - all your parts are. Our brain is a part of us, and so whatever happens in the brain is still real. Existentialism, humanistic psychology will attest to that in some way, and offer some comfort.
It does sound like you are struggling with dissociation. But if you have a comorbid diagnosis with dissociation and/or PTSD, it's also understandable that you would be struggling even more with certain symptoms. But that's okay. You're still very real, and you're in a safe place to share. Thank you for sharing! I don't struggle with schizoaffective disorder, but I can relate to the pain you feel from questioning yourself and your experiences. I hope your treatment team helps validate your experiences and acknowledge that you are real. (((safe thoughts and hugs))) |

Yes, I definitely relate to this. It's hard to determine if we're real sometimes if the thoughts are that overwhelming. My own spirituality has led me to believe I am real, however, I do think everyone is connected in some way. Interconnected, that is. Also, thoughts are real, too. Like, some people (especially psychologists and psychiatrists) - seem to reduce thoughts to the biological (i.e., impulses in the mind, electrical currents skittering through our physical brain). I don't think it's that simple (this is just my opinion). I'm not doubting the validity of certain theories of the mind that psychiatrists and psychologists have, but rather just pointing to the possibility of other explanations.
I think it's a good question, anyway, and I hope something about my answer resonates with you. __________________ "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” |
