I have a son that has paranoid schziophrenia. He was diagnosed 4 yrs ago. For anyone who has this or anyone who is here for support of a loved one with this, please help me help him. We have all been through hell and back and hell again from this. He recently just got back on his shot so it will take awhile for him to even out. I just need advice. I have done my research and continue daily to read everything i can so i can understand this better. If anything in this post offends anyone, or i am just not stating things correctly or in the correct terms, forgive me. I trully feel alone in this and i can't even imagine how he feels. Thank you.

I was diagnosed it 2004. I'm not really confident in giving advice although I would say that it is a very personal illness. For instance, I assume you have heard of NAMI, alot of people would advise to join groups with them but I feel that they don't help me. I will also say that since I have taken my meds consistently I have stayed out of the hospital, which is what I want. The meds don't entirely fix the problem, I think it really remains up to the person with the illness to do the best that they can. Also exercise almost always makes me feel better. Sometimes I do a minute and a half of jump-rope and I feel better (and am able to get things done) for 3 to 4 hours... Quite a payoff for a minute and a half.

Hello Youaremysunshine: Thank you for bringing your concern here to PC.
![]() ![]() https://psychcentralforums.com/partn...ivers-support/ You wrote you have done your research. So the articles on schizophrenia that are available in Psych Central's archives may not contain anything that is new to you. However, just in case there is something, here are links to 6 of them, the first by our host Dr. John Grohol, Psy.D.: Schizophrenia Guide: Symptoms, Treatment & More | Psych Central Managing Schizophrenia: 9 Things Every Caregiver Should Know Living with Schizophrenia - What's Schizophrenia Life Like? | Psych Central Understanding & Giving Support to Someone with Schizophrenia https://psychcentral.com/lib/helpful...rs-and-others/ https://psychcentral.com/blog/joshua...schizophrenia/ I hope you find PC to be of benefit. ![]()

Hi there. I don't have paranoid schizophrenia, I have depression with psychotic symptoms but I am willing to help you however I can. Even if you just need to talk about what you are going through, I can listen. It's good your son went back on the shot as that might help him be more regulated. I know I do better on my meds than without them, but once in a while I get a wild hair that I am okay without my meds, which usually leads to trouble. Does he have more trouble with hallucinations or delusions? Or both? I have more trouble with hallucinations. Any questions you want to ask just ask. HUGS Kit
