I wish the armchair therapists would back away from some of these support sites. There are people in true crisis here.

I get it. You are “intellectuals”. Most of us are geniuses…get over it. Go dissect us on your secret forums elsewhere.

The patient IS the doctor. You are a tool.

Yeah, I meant that last bit both ways.

Hey MickG,

I've always enjoyed your posts, and you have an amazing level of insight.

Just wanted to say 'right on' for expressing yourself, and I hope you can accept my support.

You'd be surprised.

I was simply having a moment. It still amazes me how the theorists equate schizophrenia with mild retardation.

We have an experience that shatters our very being. All the walls come down and there is no enclosure. Though I wish this on no one I do wish I could convey how important it is at times for the outsiders who think they have the answers to back off and let us talk to each other. After all, we are the ones who know this place.

True support is always welcome.

I have to say I found your original post offensive. I'm no intellectual or a genius but I have been supporting people here for many years.

Of course schizophrenia has nothing to do with retardation and any real psychologist would know that.

With respect.

As a by the way for anyone interested, once upon a time an online friend stumbled onto a blog written by a psychiatrist, a "professional", and there she discovered the doctor had disclosed private patient information for all the world to see so she and her "friends" could dissect the patient for the simple joy of it I suppose.

Several of us, those suffering from mental illness, were later locked out of the blog after discovering it. I highly doubt the doc had a crisis of conscience and deleted it completely so it does trouble me that somewhere there is private patient information being disclosed illegally.

That is how low some of those professionals are.

That's called 'motivational interviewing' which is a way to get people to do something about their issues and as I said in that post that was the whole point about that thread.

Now, I spend every single day here at Psych Central (in my spare time) helping people because I want to and I have been here a lot longer than you and you choose to insult me for no reason.

I hope you feel better soon.

Well yes, that's totally wrong to have information written about a named patient and I totally understand your anger but why be angry with all professionals? Surely your beef is with that particular professional. You could report them to their professional organization or write your own blog but why do it here at Psych Central? DocJohn is a PsyD are you going to attack him aswell?

If you go back and read my initial post I didn't attack any professional initially and no I'm not attacking your beloved DocJohn. He's likely rather cool. I didn't even attack YOU. Go back and read it...please. Armchair therapists...not people honestly helping people.

Now if you don't mind I am schizophrenic. I hear crap others cannot. I see crap others cannot. It is hard as h-ll! People don't get that. Forgive me if you must I was simply having a moment and thought I could express myself in the appropriate forum.

Yes of course you can express yourself in the appropriate forum. I would never defend bad therapists. And I totally agree that retardation has nothing to do with schizophrenia, like I said, a real psychologist would never say that.

I do happen to sit in an armchair...

(((((((( MickG ))))))))) I want you to know I'm on your side!

Oh you reminded me...when I referred to retardation I was referring to the way some think they have to "dumb down" information for schizophrenics. Truth be known, those with retardation are far more intelligent than society thinks. They simply have a different thought process. So do we.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if each of us found our place where we could excel in our particular gifted way of thinking? Then each of us would shine as we are meant to...and imagine the problems that would be solved.

'Retardation' is not a word I use, I worked with people with learning difficulties for many years and they all had their talents yes. Schizophrenia isn't a word I use a lot either, I tend to use the word psychosis because that's what it is - severe distress but you knew that.

I do think everyone is unique yes and indeed everyone has a talent.

Sorry I got off on the wrong foot with you.

I'm not a fan of the word retardation either though we may find the phrase learning disabled will change someday as well. And it is fine to use the word schizophrenia. It does exist. It seems to me to be a thought process or way of thinking whereas psychosis is more of an experience. It is very difficult to explain but I have both of these. I am coming into the understanding that there is a seperation within me between the two however I think one may exist within the other.

But now I'm just walking worlds in thought...it is a shaman thing. And that is another story.

No worries about the wrong foot thing...
