It's one of the most disturbing symptoms of psychosis, the feeling that other people can read your thoughts. Having experienced this illusion myself I have tried to analyse what's actually happening.
When I was ill, someone would start talking about a subject that I had just been thinking about. Positive proof, it might seem but what I realised later was that I only had those thoughts "after" they started talking. The mind can have several minutes worth of thoughts in a few seconds. An example of this is where you are dreaming and you realise you have only been asleep for 5 minutes but the dream sequence feels like it was a much longer time. Really, It is much more wierd that nobody can read your thoughts. We are all alone in our minds and only by using words can we communicate with one another. |

I'm not dx'd with psychosis and have never worried that people can read my thoughts, but I have had the experience of having a person suddenly begin talking about what I was thinking about. It's always startling, but often the explanation is that whatever cued me to begin thinking about something also cued the other person. For example if I'm riding in the car with my mom and we're both quiet, lost in our thoughts, and I'm thinking about my godfather, then suddenly my mother mentions a memory about him, I'll realize that we just drove past the church where his son got married. Something like that. Sometimes it's much more subtle than that, though.

I have never had the belief that others can read my thoughts. However, I hear voices and often wonder if I am hearing others' thoughts. Their thoughts are not very nice at times. But, if you can really have several minutes worth of thoughts in a few seconds, then that explains why the voices seem too jarbled to understand sometimes. This in a way confirms my belief. Could I really be hearing other people's thoughts? Or is this all in my head? I still don't know.

so many things are true at the same time, that we can practically choose what to believe and point to all kinds of evidence.... i personally found a great calm, when i "realized" that we are all so interconnected that it's not possible to hide from one another, on some deep interpersonal level. maybe on the surface, we can wear a mask, but our common inheritance betrays us, we are all just humans who share most of the charactoristics of the other animals,, let go of the fear and the shame, and this becomes a source of great comfort~~ best wishes,, Gus

People read my mind all the time. It is scary as hell. When I think something the radio picks up on it and so do other people. I just want to have private thoughts. I feel sorry for all who experience this. I feel like screaming like a macaw. It makes my believe it or not hair and face itch more. I feel so weird. Always have all my life.
