Just wondering - how long do your delusions last, and do you generally snap out of them yourself or do you have to be medicated out of your delusional state?

For me, I've found that generally my delusions don't last too long - the acute stage is maybe 5-6 weeks. With most instances, I've been able to recognise myself that I was experiencing some delusional thinking, although this latest time around it took some effort and a lot of talking from many supportive people to get to the stage where I realised my thinking was faulty. I had spent time thinking that it wasn't me that had the problem, but rather everyone else had the problem.

I don't know because I've had the same thing for over a year - well it changes a bit, I thought that would convince everyone that it's real.

I have proof as well - but that didn't help either

I escalate for several weeks then peak. I get really paranoid, and I don't tell people what I'm thinking. I constantly have idea's that my old T used to call delusional, but they aren't. I think pure delusion is when you shut the world out and only concentrate on the ideas and thoughts. I think a lot of what they call delusion is just that we have a different perspective on things, and we are more aware then others.

Because I usually have micropsychotic episodes (psychotic episodes that are very short) my delusions usually only last a couple of days. The longest I've had delusions last are about 5 weeks. And most of the time, I gradually begin to realize that my delusions aren't true after all.

Delusional states are for me are very rare now but I've been dealing with this 10 yrs.
I have a lot of everything else and I do get worn out dealing with it.
I also can relate with people not believing you when something actually does occur.
2 months ago I woke up to my neighbor climbing out my window. He was actually there and made it known he had been there with physical proof he left behind.I went frick'n nuts! My family didn't believe me,The police didn't believe me,my Dr and T were the only ones that believed me.See now my credibility is left at paranoid delusion at best all because of the statements made 'my brother/son has a lot of problems" So I guess you do what you want to the disabled because they have problems. Not only am I pissed off but I don't give a damn (and I'm waiting)what happens to them and when it does My response will be .......hum sounds like you gotta problem !

Mine varies greatly. It is either very short (the shortest one ever only lasted seconds and that is when I thought a big company was going to buy my brother's company for $750 million) or it can last years. I have had very bizarre delusions (yes I admit that all my ideas to outsiders would be called delusions....do I have a normal thought?) about my pet bird not going to go into it here its just too weird but since we got him when I was 10. The first true psychotic break was when I was 12-13 and it lasted months until I got out of the extremely stressful situation of being attacked every single day. Sometimes they last just a couple of weeks. Sometimes it goes away on its own but when its more severe I usually need an increase in my pills.

I have had delusions last hours, days, weeks, months and at my worst I was cycling through evolving delusions which lasted a year and so many months. Some delusions I have managed to over come my self, others took medicated states, and some took the shattering of the fasle beliefs which were inherent to those delusions. Any how I am mostly delusion free and have pretty much been so since I took Abilify.

So far once about every two years I have a period of roughly 3 months where something happens. Usually this is around a month of issues, and a couple of months of recover.

This is in regards to symptoms that have a major impact on my lifestyle. Some lesser symptoms or things that I force not to act on persist throughout. It strikes me that we should all synchronize episodes and get together sometime. Just think of all that creativity?!

Best wishes to all of you!

I have delusions all the time, even though I am taking medication for it.
They usually don't last that long.I have plenty of other people around me
to remind me it is not real.Sometimes I just snap out of it. Sometimes it lingers.
It can be scary at times.I wish the best for you.

Mine lasted awhile, maybe a few days. I only remember a day, but they did last awhile. I thought i was jesus and that police (who came to help us) were going to crucify me. Scary. I also thought i was the antichrist. That was the most scary.

Some are as short as a few hours and some last months. I vary I guess. Sometimes i snap out of it myself with the shorter ones. But the longer ones i have to be medicated usually.

To all:
if you state it's a delusion, then doesn't that indicate right there that's it's not one? (b/c you recognize it).?

I don't even understand what a delusion is or isn't so it's hard to answer this question. But I will say maybe a couple months. Then they just become beliefs?? I've had some of the same beliefs that I did when I was first diagnosed 3 years ago, so if those actually are delusions then years. I don't really know.

My son recognizes a delusion after he's out of it. During the delusion he may recognize that others don't believe it, but he does.

I don't ever recognize my delusions til after i've calmed through extreme intense focused conversations with a family member or meds. I haven't been on meds for a couple of years now and i'm mostly alone now, too, but I don't believe i'm under any kind of spell now. I feel ok, I think. I do not know my emotions or thoughts well, at all, because they are everywhere every second of the day, so I pay attention to what I do with my hygiene to guess if I am ok. I took a shower for the first time in two months yesterday.
