That's a really good question. I think support from other people is helpful - maybe essential. And if your family is supportive that's wonderful. But I think some people do manage without family support. Some people even "divorce" their family and move on.
I bought this book for my son on the recommendation of a therapist: A Way Out of Madness: Dealing with Your Family After You've Been Diagnosed with a Psychiatric Disorder. I know he's looked at it some, but I'm not sure how useful he's found it. |

it is nice to have family support if they are informed about your illness, but sometimes they are very miss informed and can cause things to not go so well...stygma comes from people not being knowledgable and fearing the things they do not understand...
soem days my husband is very supportive some days not so much... same with my mom who really can not relate at all... i think they really do love me and try, but in my fear i do not always trust them so i prefer not to tell them things and have that support
