For once in my life I seriously wish I had cable or dish tv. This Monday on TNT is the premiere of a program called Perception.

Quote:
In Perception, Eric McCormack plays Dr. Daniel Pierce, an eccentric neuroscience professor with paranoid schizophrenia who is recruited by the FBI to help solve complex cases. Pierce has an intimate knowledge of human behavior and a masterful understanding of the way the mind works. He also has an uncanny ability to see patterns and look past people's conscious emotions to see what lies beneath.

Pierce's mind may be brilliant, but it's also damaged. He struggles with hallucinations and paranoid delusions brought on by his schizophrenia. Oddly, Daniel considers some of his hallucinations to be a gift. They occasionally allow him to make connections that his conscious mind can’t yet process. At other times, the hallucinations become Daniel's greatest curse, leading him to behave in irrational, potentially dangerous ways.

Daniel's mental condition and offbeat manner make it difficult for him to achieve the close friendships and intimate relationships he craves. He’s in his element when solving an intricate puzzle or a coded message. But in unfamiliar situations, he can quickly become overwhelmed, and only his favorite music and a crossword puzzle have the power to make things right again.

Rachael Leigh Cook co-stars as FBI agent Kate Moretti, Pierce’s former student who asks him to consult on certain cases. Unlike her colleagues, Kate is willing to look past Daniel's peculiarities. Also in Daniel's life is Max Lewicki (Arjay Smith), who serves as his teaching assistant. His primary job is to keep Pierce in line and on task, whether that means grading midterms or laying out Pierce's wardrobe for the day. And Natalie Vincent (Kelly Rowan) is Daniel's best friend and every bit his intellectual equal. In addition, award-winning actor LeVar Burton (Roots, Star Trek: The Next Generation) will play a recurring role as Paul Haley, a dean at the university and Pierce’s friend.

Thanks for this! I'll probably watch it illegally online -- I can get you links if I find any and you aren't particularly fond of copyright law!

That looks like a great series......this is when I wish I had a TV.....living way out in the country & not having the money to pay for satilite......I put all the extra money I have into having internet......which is also transmitted to my farm from the water tower across a few miles.

Haven't gotten the online watching of the programs either.

My sister's in Austria. Maybe I'll go over to her house and watch it.

Think sz will be the hot, sexy new thing? Maybe soon everyone will want it.

Austria, as in Europe-Austria?? Make sure you stop by for a visit

True story: "A Beautiful Mind" came out when I was about 15, long before the diagnosis. I wanted schizophrenia SO BAD so I could be a genius like him. Careful what you wish for, I guess!

Yep, Europe Austria. She's at a conference. She took my mom with her. I hope mom has fun. She was grumbling about it on Monday.

My mom almost never eats - and is very proud of it. She does like coffee but nothing fancy - just plain coffee.

Ok, it's dinner time.....that's NOT NICE. Actually went to a wonderful German restaurant in Cincinnati last Friday. Had a wonderful dish they made with spatzel.....mushroom & a cream Marsala sauce....it sounded more Italian than German....but it was sure good.....it was the wonderful dark German Lager that I really enjoyed & had never tasted such wonderful apple strudel....with vanilla & caramel sauce......ok....I'm hungry.....I just had a small bowl of water mellon......that's what I eat on hot days when it's too hot to feel hungry & definitely too hot to cook.

What is she going to do in Austria then? Yodel? Twirl in a meadow singing "My Favourite Things"? Maybe she has the physique for lederhosen, if she never eats??

I don't know. My sister's going there for a conference, and she asked my mom to go too. Originally she was going to take her to Greece, but for some reason she decided on the Austria trip instead.

My mom complains constantly about having nothing to do. Now she's complaining about going to Austria.

Probably a good idea not to go to Greece right now. I would go, except for all the rioting and police brutality :-/

My sister may still be going to Greece. I'm not sure. I'm not clear on why she changed the venue at the last minute. She goes to lots of conferences all over the world - mostly to support her students who are the ones doing the actually research and presentations.

OK less jealous. I don't like marketing so much. Too temptatious.

Temptatious?

I don't know why she chose marketing. I suspect it was because the local university didn't have a PhD in marketing, so she had to go to another university a couple hundred miles away. So she couldn't live fulltime with her husband (now her ex-husband).

Entrepreneurship is her real love. She used to work for the SBA helping people start small businesses. In fact she's been a partner in several businesses, but once the thing is launched she always gets bored and sells her share. Day to day running of a business? Not for her.

Aren't you not eligible for US security clearance if you've ever had a case of the nutters, anyway? ???

Nope. You can be not qualified for the job if your behavior and performance history is poor, but it doesn't automatically disqualify you from things in and of itself. I think being allowed security clearance is certainly unusual, but if you've shown yourself to be of use, they'll use you regardless!
...and I hate you all because now I want baklava and I don't know where to get it...
