I'm not sure if this WILL trigger anybody, but just to be on the safe side.

Does anyone else have a difficult time telling whether noises are real or not? I've been dealing with my intermittent hallucinations for a year & a half now. They've become so commonplace that I usually just assume everything isn't real now... But lately, my paranoia has gotten really bad about it. I just hear random knocking or speaking & my teeth are set on edge-- **** I'm going psychotic, **** I'm going psychotic, **** I'm going psychotic-- only to find out my boyfriend heard the same noise. I can't deal with it... It's almost worse than hearing things themselves because I get so worked up & scared over something that actually exists. What could this be? Is it a form of psychosis itself, anxiety, derealisation? I'm just so confused that I can barely see straight.

I struggle with that too, more so when I'm already stressed and on edge. Now that meds have almost completely taken away the hallucinations. I get stuck trying to figure out if something is real or not and get upset when I can't categorize it because I'm scared things will get worse again, and what if I don't know that it is, and I become delusional or something. None of it is positive.

I have a really hard time with noises, voices, and music. My meds have not taken care of my auditory hallucinations, just the visual. One night I kept hearing music and it sounded like it was coming from the kitchen. I checked the kitchen, no radio, So I started checking bedrooms. No ones radio was on so then I knew it wasn't real. I am always saying "Did you hear that?" I feel truly crazy sometimes.

I honestly can't say. It is really exhausting and I think it's self perpetuating the more exhausted we get.

Yeah, I get this too.

My philosophy is that if someone else is in the room, I just say, "Do you hear that?" in just kind of a casual way. Usually they say yes. I would say like 95% of the time they say yes. I use it as my reality checking sometimes. Other ways I reality check when I'm alone are: "Is there any possible way this is a noise coming from far way/outside," and "could this be the t.v."

I don't think it's a psychosis. I think it's normal, healthy fear. After having been through something like this, I think it's totally normal to doubt ourselves and to question everything. And then to be afraid of it happening again.

Thank you guys. It's just been frustrating having more anxiety from things that are actually there! It's almost funny... Thankfully my boyfriend is always there & encourages me to reality-check with him. I tried taking some Valerian Root to ease the anxiety/agitation this gives me & unfortunately it didn't work. But I slept like a rock a few hours later!! Haha time to move on to something else, though at least I know I have a reliable sleep aid.
Everyone's response has been helpful.

I get that all the time as well! Sometimes it sounds like there is a party going on.

The one I hate is sometimes (it's happened 2 times recently,) when an ambulance or police care or fire truck passes me with the siren on, it sounds like a man is screaming really loud. It doesn't sound like the siren at all. I mean, it just sounds like a normal guy's voice, but screaming "AAAAHHHHH!"

It freaks me out, I hate that.
