This is a weird question, but extremely important.

I feel like people have trouble understanding what I'm talking about.

I say one thing and I get all these responses that are completely off what I'm talking about. I think that my scentances and everything make sense as in they are not word salad or anything.

But I feel like people don't understand what I'm saying more and more often. They take the wrong meaning or maybe I'm not being clear???

Do you find that it's difficult to understand what points I'm trying to make in my responses/posts?

Also, I'm having this same issue when I talk to people, so it's more than a forum thing.

I don't think you're difficult to understand.

I can sort of understand what you say. I find it a liitle less difficult, well not difficult but a bit easier, to type stuff out, because I can review it and then correct it and then review it and keep doing that. But when I talk I think I make sense, but i forget what im saying. So everyone struggles to understand me. I had lots of arguments with a friend a few years back cos she didnt understand my illness and kept saying im talking rubbish. I was saying im not. So she secretly recorded our conversations and played it back. I was very upset and confused by what I heard. Total gibberish and rubbish I was talking. This is one of the things that they used to make me go see a doctor.

No, I think you present your thoughts clearly. Is this a problem with everyone? If it's only particular people, possibly they don't like what you're saying and so "hear selectively." One of my coworkers does this with me ... drivers me bonkers.

I seem to have this problem randomly and with lots of people. Sometimes the same people because I know them and see them often. But also often with strangers. I thought maybe it was selective hearing, too. But, I'm starting to think it's something happening and I can't catch it. When I started noticing maybe it was happening on the forum it sent up a red flag.

Thanks for responding, everyone.

I get that problem too where people can't understand me. Both typing and talking. Not all the time though but sometimes I get word salad and that's part of the illness.

I think the "problem" is you post long posts and it's easy to get stuck at one point.

so not difficulty, just people picking on the "wrong" (for you) thing. I have the same problem actually. Kinda post and need feedback and people focus on something I consider not so important and ignore main point.

I agree with this.

Also, long posts tend to get skimmed. It's annoying when you've explained something in your post, but the person who responds clearly didn't read that part, and they either ask something you've already answered or suggest something you've already tried.

Even though I find it annoying when others do it to me, I tend to skim long posts too - and miss important things.

Word salad, now there is a funny name for a symptom. Problem I have with words is you really only get one chance. So you're holding , or trying to hold a conversation with say a friend, but it could be anyone, i mean could be a doctor, and not everyone will wait for you to correct yourself or wont even ask you to explain yourself if they dont understand. They just either ignore you or talk about something random! How rude.

With typing , like now , im typing, I can read it over and over and over and over and correct it and correct it and even sometimes I will ask my mom (I usually say mum cos im in the UK, but you lot are from the US, so I will say mom in case) to read it becasue I want you all to understand it. Maybe the world should only communicate by typing!

Newtus: I understand you usually, I'm sure there are some things I don't understand.

Day: I think it's okay for you to say mum instead of mom. I know the in the UK it's mum instead of mom and that's perfectly fine with me. I like knowing that I know people in other parts of the world. It's really cool.

Venus and Costello: I guess the problem is really me in the end after all, as usual. I will try to use less words.

Schizophrenia is very complicated. I've always been fascinated by Schizophrenia and Schizophrenics, because they see and hear things others don't. As a Bipolar person I experience some psychosis if I experience anxiety from my paranoia and almost anything can trigger me. I would hear audio music, Voices ( disappeared somehow).

No, I think it's my own self that doesn't always understand and not necessarily how you say things. But I try to say when I'm not feeling like my comprehension is what it normally is.

I watched a home video from years and years ago and it showed me holding a conversation with others. I actually was talking properly and understanding others and they were understanding me. I felt sad and very angry.

I'm sorry. I wish I knew how to help you so you could talk to people like that again. Maybe someday you will. And maybe someday isn't that far away.

Today I found an article about how they have discovered the genes that cause bipolar, schizophrenia, autism, depression and ADHD, and it turns out they are just different mutations of the same gene! So maybe better treatment and help for all of us is not too far off.

I don't have this problem, well I don't think so, people always seem to know what I'm talking about, but I got told I mis-interpret things a lot, I don't think I was though.
