I can't stand it when people are walking behind me. It really freaks me out.

Anyone else bothered by this?

It depends on how close and for how long.

I live in a fairly large suburb & I go for walks to stay sort of sane & sometimes people end up walking behind me & it feels really bad. Like they'll hurt me, or that they're watching me on purpose, etc.

i can't stand this either. it doesn't matter where i'm at. crowded stores. my apartment complex, etc. people even ten feet behind me creep me out. doesn't matter how long they're following for either. i just hate the feeling of someone behind me. i can't stand restaurants either. if i can't have my back to a wall, i don't sit down.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, it doesn't matter where I'm at either. In my neighborhood, at stores, in my own house, etc it drives me up a wall.

If I can't have my back to a wall in restaurants I'm not okay with that either. Interesting that you mentioned that issue, this might be unrelated but I've always had to have my bed up against a wall to sleep because if I don't I'll feel like someone is standing above my bed. Creepy.

Yeah me too with the hating people walking or sitting behind me. I had to sit in the back row of class in uni or else there was NO WAY I could concentrate on the lecture being in high alert about the person behind me. Lately I've even been hallucinating the sound of footsteps behind me when there's no one there! It sucks

It is a big reason why I don't like going out for walks anymore. walking on the street or on a trail feels threatening.

Last year, during the bad time, I would hear someone stomping around behind me when I was at my desk at home. I have my back against a wall now so that won't happen.

I hate it when people are behind me. At my office they oriented my desk so the people sit and wait behind me. I can't stand it. I have to turn my chair so they are not behind me any more.

And people walking behind me unnerves me. At work if it's someone I know like a co-worker I'll let them catch up to me. If it's a stranger I just feel like I have to keep my eye on them.

I went through a really bad time around Christmas. I had to venture out into the mall by myself on I think two occasions. At least one of them included a full out panic attack in the women's section at Macy's. It was pretty terrible.

I also hate when I'm in the car and there is a car right next to me for any length of time. (Whether it be driving or sitting at a stop light.) But, to be fair, I'm usually talking to myself and don't like having other people... strangers included... seeing me do that.

Oh yeah, I don't like it when cars are right next to me either. And for the same reason! If I'm not talking, I'm singing to the radio.

I also don't like having cars follow me too close. But I was for real chased down once, and luckily got away. I don't know what that guy was going to do to me, but it's freaked me out. I don't like feeling followed in my car.

i'm the same way. for some reason as long as people keep a decent distance i'm ok. it's when they get aggressive and get too close or follow me for long distances that my brain starts working overtime and i get more and more paranoid.

I also have this big paranoia about other drivers that they are purposefully trying to make things more difficult only for me. Sometimes I feel it's irrational and sometimes I feel totally validated on this....

I hate when people are behind me for any reason. Like, if they're walking behind me, I feel like I'm being followed. If I'm writing, drawing, or on the computer, people want to see what I'm doing. I hate it.

Yeah. Unless it's someone I trust. But, I don't trust very many people.

Ditto. If I'm caught writing or something, it doesn't matter if it's a family member, I cover my work. My brother often asks what I'm doing, and that only makes things worse since he tries to see what it is if I don't tell him.

I get that irrational feeling too sometimes. Like if I'm on the highway following a really slow car and I'm going to be turning left at the next road, I won't turn my signal on until it's too late for that car to turn left too. I know it's totally irrational to think the car in front of me would go out of their way to turn at the same corner as me just because they know I'm going to turn there and they want to annoy me.

Sometimes I'll get behind two cars who are driving below the speed limit side by side, and I can't pass. I'll think they must see I want to get around and one or both of them are doing it deliberately. Then I'll say to myself, "No, they're just in their own little universe, and they don't notice me back here." Then one day I heard a coworker laugh and say that she actually does that - drives slowly next to another slow car in order to prevent a faster car from passing. So, some do do it deliberately.
