My wife is schizopernia and having psychotic episodes. She is on 60 mg geodon 2 times a day. Of late things get bad after 8:00 pm and she has difficulty sleeping and screams because of voice /noise in the head. I am looking for some advice regarding this screaming. Is this part of the illness? How to cope? Or is it because of geodon?

My son sometimes has trouble sleeping, but he doesn't scream. Have you asked her why she's screaming?

First thing I would do is ask her why. Then if I couldn't resolve it with her, I'd encourage her to talk to her pdoc or therapist or I'd ask if she wanted me to talk to the pdoc about it.

I agree. Find out what she's seeing or hearing that is upsetting her so much. Be supportive and listen. Don't dismiss what she says. Remember that to her, the things she sees and hears are 100% real. It can be completely terrifying.

Just, just because she sees and hears things you can't, that doesn't mean she can't communicate it to you. Believe what she says. The things she sees are not fake, because they effect her in a very real way. Do you see? She might be using the screaming to try to make it stop. Or it could just be terrifing, really. I've screamed before when a voice snuck up on me.

And, I agree, if it keeps being an issue, then she probably does need to see her pdoc soon.

Just the other day my son was talking about some of his experiences in the hospital. One of his chief complaints was the way staff treated him - not listening to him or ignoring him. He said he doesn't understand why people wouldn't just talk to him.

I agree with what the others have already said. When I am in that position often all I want is somebody who accepts that these things are happening to me. The other thing I need is plenty of space. Getting the right balance is important, and that will be different for everyone.

thanks for feedback. i have asked her and she says the voices (hundreds of them ganging up) or whistling sound (high pitched whistling sound) is what makes her scream. she is screaming at "them". what i wanted to know was if this is typical symptom of the illness.

Things are different for everyone. But I know a lot of people suggest trying to drown them out with music, etc. My voices just come and go. In that, I'm fortunate really. The worst I ever had was the ringing phone, for hours and hours. And it's extremely distressing and I would break down sobbing because it's so horrible. That hasn't happened in a long time for me, which I'm extremely grateful for that.

I don't know that it's a "typical symptom of the illness," but any human being driven to the limits of what they can endure might start screaming. If I were having that kind of experience, I might scream too.

I hope your wife feels better soon.

She probably needs professional help. Listen to her.
