Rufus May posted about this retreat on facebook. I remember when fishsandwich said that mindfulness meditation wasn't helpful to her, said it made things worse. It looks like this retreat may address the use of mindfulness meditation by people who suffer with extreme states.

Being mindful with the extreme
Friday May 17th - Sunday May 19th
Mindfulness and meditation can be helpful for creating emotional stability. However, these practices bring greater awareness of all aspects of our lives. This can include painful experiences ... such as flashbacks, voices and visions.
How do we sit with powerful and distressing experiences?
How do we sit with destructive thoughts, visions, emotions and sensations?
How do we ground ourselves when we are overwhelmed?
This retreat is a chance to try out different meditation techniques and share ways of navigating when things get difficult. There will be different workshops including movement meditation, mindfulness, exercise and meditation practice. The workshop facilitators include Rufus May and
friends.
Rufus May is one of the organisers of Evolving Minds - a public meeting about different approaches to emotional wellbeing. He works as a psychologist in the NHS. He has experience of using meditation and mindfulness himself over the last ten years. He is interested in how we use such practices with painful and confusing experiences and has co-lead experiential workshops in this area.
The retreat is being held at Fell Edge,(http://felledge.com/) Addingham from 5pm Friday 17th May. The cost is £75 for the weekend, this includes all activities, food and accommodation. You will need to bring your own sleeping bags and a tent if you wish to camp.
